Mean Girls (2024) | Transcript

Cady Heron is a hit with the Plastics, an A-list girl clique at her new school. But everything changes when she makes the mistake of falling for Aaron Samuels, the ex-boyfriend of alpha Plastic Regina George.
Mean Girls (2024)

Directed by: Samantha Jayne, Arturo Perez Jr.
Screenplay by: Tina Fey
Based on: Mean Girls by Jeff Richmond, Nell Benjamin, Tina Fey. Queen Bees and Wannabes by Rosalind Wiseman
Starring: Angourie Rice, Reneé Rapp, Auliʻi Cravalho, Christopher Briney
Distributed by: Paramount Pictures
Release dates: January 8, 2024 (New York City), January 12, 2024 (United States)
Running time: 112 minutes

Plot: Sixteen-year-old Cady Heron, after moving back to the United States from Kenya, navigates the complex social hierarchy of North Shore High School with the guidance of her new friends, Janis and Damian. Warned against the reigning clique, the “Plastics,” led by the manipulative Regina George, Cady is pulled into their world when Regina invites her to join. What starts as a plot with Janis to undermine Regina’s status quickly escalates as Cady becomes embroiled in the school’s petty politics, including developing a crush on Regina’s ex-boyfriend, Aaron Samuels. Cady’s machinations against Regina, involving sabotage and spreading rumors, lead to her temporary ascent as the school’s new “queen bee.” However, her actions cause widespread chaos and hurt among her peers, leading to a reckoning where Cady takes responsibility for her actions. She eventually finds redemption by helping her school’s Mathletes team win a championship, reconciling with her friends, and breaking the cycle of pettiness and cruelty that defined her earlier actions.

She took him back. She took Aaron back.

Of course she did.

It’s because Regina’s a life ruiner!

When we were in sixth grade, she told everybody

that Janis was… Damian!

Okay. She does not need to hear that right now.

No, I know the story.

You lit a fire ’cause Regina got a boyfriend.

[Damian] She said what?

Oh, hell no.

Damian… No! The truth will be told.

Stay with me, Cady.

Like all history, this is emotionally layered and culturally dense.

Janis and Regina were best friends in middle school.

And at that time, females expressed their identities through collectible plushies.

I don’t know what those…

It’s these bastards. And they were everywhere.

Regina gave Janis a BFF set for her birthday.

Janis put a rainbow patch on hers.

This is how she came out to her friend.

And Regina put one on hers, too,

out of allyship because she used to be human.

Cut to eight months later, Regina becomes obsessed with this gross boy. Kyle!

One night, they were all playing spin the bottle…

And Regina was worried that Kyle liked Karen more.

Regina put on a little show.

Not okay.

Please put this all back in its box.

They got into a huge fight.

Regina started avoiding Janis at school,

but did she give back that plush animal?

Oh, no. She took it everywhere.

She named her “Sissy Liz” and she made everyone say

“good morning” to it every day,

and it was very weird and boring.

Fast forward.

One day in Science,

Regina was making everyone say hi to Sissy Liz.

And Janis finally heard it.

“Sissy Liz” was short for “Obsessed Lesbian.”

Regina had been making fun of Janis this entire time

and everyone but her knew it.

So, and this is regrettable…

Janis took her Bunsen burner…

and torched the doll.

And Regina’s backpack caught on fire a little bit

and Janis was kicked out of school for the remainder of the year.

And the adults didn’t know why.

Janis just seemed crazy.
