Episode Title: Paradise Lost
Series: Griselda
Season: 1
Episode: 5
Original release date: January 25, 2024

Episode plot summary: In “Paradise Lost” from Griselda, the Godmother, now Miami’s most feared narco, cleverly corrupts CENTAC using her influence. She frames Diaz, a CENTAC officer, by planting money in his bank account, leading to his forced resignation and June taking over the CENTAC unit. In a drastic move, Griselda eliminates nine of her own people, suspecting a leak. June capitalizes on this, planning a raid on one of Griselda’s stash houses to exacerbate her paranoia. Griselda, spiraling into suspicion and drug use, suspects her friend Isabel of being the leak. The episode depicts a chaotic birthday party, Griselda’s strained family life, and her increasing instability. She viciously assaults Carmen, thinking she’s an informant, and orders a hit on Chucho, leading to his son’s accidental death. The episode culminates with Chucho going into hiding, Carmen turning witness for CENTAC, and Griselda, momentarily relieved, unaware of the unfolding betrayals and consequences.

[June] For the last three years, Griselda Blanco has owned Miami.

Ms. Blanco runs the Medellín cartel’s operation in Miami,

both smuggling and distributing

extraordinary amounts of cocaine in the United States.

[Diaz] With the help of her top enforcer,

Rivi Ayala and his Gestapo-like security organization,

Ms. Blanco’s operation has been efficient, deadly

and incredibly successful.

[June] Despite limited resources, congressmen,

our CENTAC unit has seized drugs and money

as well as pursued several homicide investigations

against her associates.

But we’re ill-equipped to compete with a criminal so clever,

that she has managed to take over much of Miami’s economy.

So how do we stop her?

Detective Hawkins has located several of Ms. Blanco’s stash houses.

We’d like to set up a surveillance operation on all of them

in order to expose Ms. Blanco’s network, make some arrests,

hopefully turn some of her associates against her.

Why not enlist the Miami PD?

Miami PD has been compromised, sir.

[congressmen murmuring]

Give us the resources to bring in more qualified officers

and tactical support, congressmen,

and we can stop Griselda Blanco before it’s too late.

In this beautiful house, with that fucking huge closet.

And we’re rotting, my love.

[somber music playing]

I love you.

Forget all that other stuff.

Forget the informant. Forget all you had to do to get here.

Let’s take all that money and leave with our kids. Let’s start from scratch.

You have to stop all of this now.

Griselda, I get that the world fucked you for so long.

[emotional music playing]

But not me.

Never me.

I don’t trust you anymore.

Now go.

[music swells]

Fuck everyone.

Fuck off, asshole.

I’d like to fuck you, baby.

What? What?

[crowd screaming]

You’re fucking dead, asshole!

[man] It’s all good. Take it easy.

[Dixon] Yeah?

[security guard in Spanish] Step aside! Move!

[banging at door]

Chucho. Chucho.

Dixon, what’s going on?

I need your help, man.

What did you do?

Tell him to leave, Chucho.

[Chucho] No, no, no.

[police siren wailing]

You brought the cops? You brought the cops?

No. This asshole pinched my girl’s ass and I lost my temper.

Take the gun and hide me. Say you did it.

No! Please, Chucho, don’t. These people are killing you.

It’s better you go back to your house.

[Dixon] What?

I have a kid here. Calm down.

Go back to your house.

This is your job. You have to help me.

[tense music playing]

[breathes heavily]

[Chucho’s wife, echoing] These people are killing you.

Tell him to leave, Chucho.

Chucho, what the fuck?

[Chucho] Dixon!

[door opens]

[door closes]

[Dixon] Mom.

[Griselda sighs]

Dixon, what happened?

I went to Chucho for help, and he hit me.

He did that to you?

Fucker was also gonna give me up to the cops.

You’ve got to teach him a lesson.

Get some rest.

[door opens, closes]

I want you to kill Chucho.

[foreboding music playing]

He’s the informant.

He wasn’t here all night.

No doubt he’s talking to that CENTAC bitch.

She approached Carmen. Probably just had more luck with Chucho.

We don’t know that.

What I know is I’m having to do your job for you.

All due respect, Griselda,

my job has always been to help make you the most powerful person in Miami.

If you kill one of your own on a theory,

that’s not power.

That’s fear.

He hit my son.

You know, Dario was right.

You think you can control me.

That I only listen to what you have to say.

I’m protecting you.

If one more man tells me he’s protecting me,

I’m going to cut his balls off!

Tonight’s taught me there aren’t many people I can trust.

And you. Have you warned me about any of them? No!

That makes me not trust you.

I would never betray you, Griselda. You know that.

Stop telling me what I know!

That’s exactly what makes me think you’d betray me.

I’ll do it.

[door opens]

[door closes]

[“Black Trombone” playing]

[people clamoring]

[song continues]

Did you do it?

I missed him, Griselda.

So he’s alive?

[sighs in relief]

Thank God.

If you still doubt my loyalty,

I can make my own living.

That won’t be necessary, Rivi.

Thank you.

[song fades out]

[reporter on TV in English] We are learning more about…

a child who was shot…

[in Spanish] Good morning.

[in English] …in a senseless act of violence. Miami police said…

[Griselda in Spanish] I said good morning.

[reporter in English] …they responded to a call of shots being fired.

The scene is still very much active…

[Griselda in Spanish] What is it?

[reporter in English] …as we’re only hours removed

from when the incident occurred.

Early this morning, the body of a small boy

was found on the footsteps of a local mosque.

The boy has been identified as Johnny Castro,

believed to be the son of Jesus Chucho Castro.

The two-year-old was shot three times in a drive-by shooting.

[melancholy music playing]

Absolutely tragic. Continuing today as law enforcement…

[in Spanish] What happened?

[in English] …try to establish what happened to the victim…

[in Spanish] Someone killed Chucho’s son, Mom.

[reporter in English] We go live to the scene with Chuck Wilson.

Chuck, what do you have for us?

[Chuck] Police found little Johnny’s body on Monday wrapped in sheets.

They knew where to look because Jesus Castro had called them.

Tonight, detectives say Colombian Castro

has been on the phone again, making three calls today.

[news report continues indistinctly]

Any word on Chucho Castro?

Looks like he and the wife left town.

[June] Hmm.

How you doing?

Other than letting everyone down?

You got to her, June, okay? They know that.

And look at what it cost.

You hit a stash house, and you tried to turn a witness. That’s it.

You did not kill that child.

She did that.

[officer] Sergeant Hawkins?

[June clears throat]

There’s someone here to see you. Says you know her.

[June] Carmen.
