Season 1 – Episode 6
Episode title: All Trails Lead Here
Original release date: July 17, 2025
Plot: Having run out of bullets, Turner is confronted by Maguire chiding him for breaking the deal between the two of them and Jill. Before he can kill Turner, Vasquez arrives and kills Maguire; Turner passes out but is successfully hospitalized. While Turner recovers, Jill returns home and confesses to her husband that Sanderson was the man who abducted and killed Caleb six years ago, and that while Turner still wanted to pursue legal justice, Jill betrayed him and paid Maguire to blackmail and kill Sanderson. Jill and Turner embrace in the hospital, reconciling over Caleb and promising to keep themselves alive. Avalos pesters Turner again, but Turner agrees to admit he was of unsound mind during Sanderson’s investigation so that Avalos may sue the park for wrongful death. Despite Maguire’s death and Souter’s objections, Turner continues to pursue the case and travels to Nevada to investigate the foster home. The daughter of the foster mom reveals Lucy was dropped off around the time of her disappearance, and that Lucy would claim her father was a cop. Turner meets Souter in the park to reveal both his findings and a reissuing of Lucy’s DNA results after Turner found Souter had meddled with the initial findings. This forces Souter to admit he was Lucy’s father, and that when Lucy resurfaced, she demanded money from Souter and eventually abducted his granddaughter. Souter pursued Lucy with a rifle and accidentally shot her, setting in motion the events that led to her death. Turner demands Souter take responsibility, but Souter instead kills himself. Following this, Turner leaves Vasquez his horse and decides to part ways with the park finally.

[gunshot]
[man screams, grunts]
[groans]
These were the guys that killed her?
All the pieces fit.
[tense music playing]
What happened?
I don’t know any of these people.
I’m not sure they killed Lucy Cook.
What?
It was my case, Lucy Cook’s abduction.
[woman] Hello? Their son. Some sick fuck grabbed him without anybody knowing.
[sobbing softly] I’m so sorry.
[Turner] It’s okay.
This whole circle of pain you and Jill have going, it’s not sustainable, not for either of you.
[Souter] It’s Lucy’s DNA results.
No Rory Cook? Unless he wasn’t the father…
I’m pretty sure she lived down the street from me, with a pastor’s family.
She was Grace when I knew her.
[grunting]
[onlookers gasp] Should’ve told her no.
She was your wife, Kyle.
Hmm?
As far as the park is concerned, your time here is over.
If you’re in this somehow, I’m gonna find out.
[Shane] And then what, Kyle?
Exactly what the fuck would you do about it?
[rifle shot]
[groaning]
[echoing] He’s coming.
[music fades out]
[intense music playing]
[panting]
[horse whinnies, neighs]

[music fades]
[tense music playing]
Blood’s still warm, Kyle.
You’re slowing down.
Like one of them chronic deer.
Didn’t have to be like this.
Deal was, you stay outta my world, I stay outta yours.
That way nobody gets hurt.
Me, you, Jill…
All you had to do, Kyle… was hold up your end of the fucking bargain.
[gun clicking]
[exhales softly]
[Shane chuckles]
[Shane clears throat]
Gotta keep one in the chamber, Kyle.
Why didn’t you just leave it alone?
[gun cocks] Move on?
[scoffs]
There’s nothing left for you in this park, Kyle.
Go see your boy.
[wind whistling]
[emotional music playing]
[gunshot echoes]
[Shane groans]
[Naya] Put the gun down.
[gunshots]
[Shane grunts]
[radio clicks]
[Naya] I got Turner.
Hey, hey. Turner.
Turner, we got you.
Hey. Stay, stay, stay. Stay with me.
Turner?
[muffled] Turner!
[atmospheric music rises]
[wind blowing]
[bird chirping]
[music fades out]
[indistinct hospital chatter]
[exhaling]
[Souter] Welcome back to the living.
You were out cold when they brought you in last night.
Docs got that bullet out okay.
Said a little rest, you’ll be fine.
Maguire?
Dead.
He was a nasty piece of work.
You were onto that before I was.
Vasquez told me what happened.
She showed me Lucy’s phone.
She did good.
She did, yeah.
[knocking on door]
[Souter] Oh, now there she is.
[Naya] How you feelin’?
Better than last time I saw you.
That’s a pretty low bar.
I’ll see if I can get you some water.
I can’t remember if I got around to thanking you out there.
You didn’t, but that’s okay.
I was just out for a ride.
You know how I love horses.
You know, it’s lucky for me Milch dumped this one on you.
Does seem like I might be your good luck charm, huh?
[puffs] I don’t know about that.
Since you came along, I’ve been shot, blown up in a mine, suspended–
No lucky charm is perfect.
Yeah, but at least you got Maguire.
Yeah.
The one who got Lucy into all of it.
She must’ve become some kind of a risk.
You know, gotten sloppy or started doing her own deals.
I rode out to Maguire’s camp with Agent Dixon this morning.
Found a whole stash of drugs and cash.
Also dug up a crate of guns buried near his tent.
Rifles, handguns. Enough for him to start his own little war.
I mentioned to Agent Dixon about running ballistics on them to find the match for Lucy.
What?
Oh…
It’s just… my job of turning you from a city cop into a ranger comfortable in the wild is practically complete.
Yeah, well, I don’t know about comfortable.
A little less likely to die in a horrible wilderness accident, maybe?
But I got to admit…
I’m starting to like it out there.
[gentle music plays]
Yeah, it grows on ya.
There’s this trail near Harper’s Ridge.
I’ve been on it a few times, and I always notice this… sort of sweet smell.
And then I realized it’s…
It’s the aspen leaves.
Yeah.
The ones already on the ground.
The horse’s feet step on ’em, grind ’em.
Makes that smell.
He’s looking pretty good, all things considered.
I’m sure he’d like to see you.
The thing no one tells you about taking a bottle of pills is how people look at you if they don’t do the trick.
[music fades]
I already got that look from Kyle once.
I don’t think I’m ready for it again just yet.
But tell him I’m glad he’s okay.
Is everything… Is everything all right?
I have to tell you something.
It may change everything you feel about me.
And with everything I put you through, I’d understand if it does.
If you just… turned and walked away.
A man named Sean Sanderson killed Caleb.
Kyle, he couldn’t figure it out for a while.
He only did because Shane Maguire had put up motion cameras in the park to track migration patterns.
[exhales shakily]
And he was going through some footage and found images… of Sanderson with…
Caleb.
[melancholy music plays]
Shane brought them to us and told Kyle he should just let Shane kill him.
You know Kyle, he… he wanted to be sure.
He wanted there to be no doubt when he arrested him.
But you know, arresting him after what he’d done… to our child.
Sitting in a courtroom, listening to him, hoping for a conviction.
[melancholy music playing]
So without telling Kyle, I, um… paid…
Shane to… contact Sanderson, blackmail him, meet him in the park, and kill him.
For murdering my child.
[music turns grim]
Kyle only found out when Sanderson was reported missing.
I think… more than anything, more than losing Caleb, it was me betraying… Kyle that ended us.
He couldn’t get past it.
And I’m afraid that you won’t be able to either.
But… [sighing] I didn’t think it was fair to not at least give you a chance.
[music fades]
Congrats!
Well done.
[man] Way to go Vasquez.
Nice work!
Thanks.
[Milch] “Dear Hero Ranger, blah, blah, blah.”
You’re really making the rest of us look bad.
Oh…
[both chuckling] For doing okay and, uh, not getting killed.
Thanks.
That’s how you do cake for public consumption.
I’m supposed to share that?
Ranger Vasquez, I could use you to help log Maguire’s weapons for ballistics.
You wanna pitch in?
You think I’ll get a fancy letter for the effort?
Probably.
Oh yeah, then fuck it.
I got nothing better to do.
[machine beeping steadily]
[gentle music rise slowly]
[breathes deeply]
[exhales]
You don’t have to worry about me.
I’m gonna be okay.
I promise.
Now your turn.
Promise me, Kyle.
I can still hear his laugh, the way it would do that little squeak at the end.
I see his head wobble when he runs.
Smell the grass in his hair.
[both chuckle sadly]
I see him.
[sighing]
[tearfully] We talk.
We play.
I know that makes me crazy, but I don’t care.
It’s worth it.
Okay.
Yeah, I promise.
[bucolic music playing]
Thank you.
Sure.
[indistinct happy chatter]
[woman] Agent Turner.
Miss Avalos.
How are you feeling?
Better every day, thank you.
I wanted to continue our conversation about the Sean Sanderson situation.
Figured as much.
In light of the criminal activities that have been transpiring in your jurisdiction, I
Not my jurisdiction anymore.
Yes. It doesn’t change the fact
Shouldn’t have been back then either.
Meaning what?
Around the time Sanderson went missing, I wasn’t at my best.
I shouldn’t have taken the lead in the search.
If I’d let someone take over, a good chance he’d have been found.
Any errors by you could confirm a wrongful death liability–
Happy to sign any statement, fill out any form that you need.
What do you think happened to Mr. Sanderson?
[light pensive music plays]
I wish I could tell you.
Sometimes things happen that just don’t make sense.
[muffled distant screaming]
[Jay] Hey.
I stopped by your cabin to visit.
Mmmm.
I got it from your drawer.
You can hang on to it.
I’m taking a little break.
Yeah, I was talking to some of the others.
Now that this is all over, we’d like to get Lucy’s body outta that morgue.
Send her off to Elo’win proper.
Be with her mother.
What about Lucy’s father?
[laughs] I’m pretty sure Rory won’t be there with them.
Rory wasn’t her father.
Say again?
Lucy’s DNA results.
Rory wasn’t a match.
Shit.
Did it say who it was?
I thought maybe you’d heard, since you were so close to them.
Not that close, if that’s what you mean, Marshal.
And what?
You think that’s who Lucy was with before coming back here?
I don’t know.
When she disappeared, I was so sure Rory killed her, I didn’t look hard enough for her.
She was out there. I just…
[sighs] I should’ve found her.
Nah, it’s easy to say now.
I remember watching you back then.
You didn’t cheat her any.
I’ll get her body released to you.
Thank you, Marshal.
You sure?
Mmhmm.
Then I’ll see you around, I guess.
If I was you, I’d watch those legs.
Wuyi might come up and snatch you right down to the bottom.
But that little ghost doesn’t take anyone unless they wanna be taken.
You haven’t heard his screams, have you?
[melancholy music plays]
[Turner] Just need to see if I can find her. I owe her that.
Lucy’s not lost anymore, Kyle.
A chunk of her life still is.
If I can fill in the gap…
If there’s something I missed years ago…
Talked to that Foot Locker kid again.
Said the girl he thought was Lucy lived in a foster home outside Yelton, Nevada.
Are you sure this is the right bone to chase?
I mean, I’m not even sure this is her.
It’s the only bone I’ve got.
[engine starting]
[enigmatic string music playing]
[music fades]
[mysterious music playing]
[rattling]
[hissing]
[knocking]
[Turner] Hello? Federal agent.
[knocking]
[door squeaking]
Hello?
[sniffs]
[indistinct chatter on television]
[man on TV] All those wishing to be saved today, can you stand up, please? Stand up.
You will feel the power of God Almighty.
[Turner] Are you Mrs. Gibbs?
Hello?
[gasps softly] I’m a federal agent.
I was hoping I could just ask some questions, if that’s okay.
[man continues indistinctly on TV]
It’ll only take a moment.
[organ playing on TV]
I’m trying to find some information about a girl who lived here years ago.
Her name was Lucy Cook.
Or Grace McRay.
Here’s a photo.
That’s, that’s Lucy, right there.
Or Grace.
That photo was taken in your church about 15 years ago.
Do you remember who brought her here?
Grace will be back soon with the rest of the children.
Is your husband here now?
Lester told me not to talk to anyone.
Uh… that’s Faith’s room.
Just for her.
Faith your daughter?
And where is she now?
She’s here.
I just made her pancakes.
[chuckling]
[door knob rattling]
Who are you?
[ominous music playing]
These children, they stayed down here, not with the family?
[music continues]
[music fades]
[indistinct chatter]
[slot machines clattering]
Heard you were asking for me?
I’m Faith Gibbs.
Yeah, I remember her.
Her hair’s different, but that’s Grace.
Uh, no idea where she came from.
She just showed up one day.
That happened a lot?
Oh, yeah.
My father had a real nice little side hustle going.
So he didn’t abduct these girls?
Didn’t have to.
People thought my father was like a… like a guardian angel or some shit.
Even paid him for his service.
Just a big foster home racket.
Collect government cash from single mothers, drug addict fathers…
Everybody thought we were one big happy family.
That’s not what it was.
Fuck no.
He barely fed those kids.
Just enough to keep ’em going.
Kept ’em locked in the basement most days.
I used to sneak their windows open just to get ’em fresh air.
Anything else you can tell me about her?
She cried a lot.
I guess she had plenty of reason to, but she cried more than most.
Always talked about how her father was gonna come and get her.
Did she mention anything to you about him?
They all talked about fathers or mothers.
Someone who’s gonna just show up one day and take ’em back to home sweet home.
Just fairy tales though. Nobody ever did.
Grace lasted a couple years, and then she ran. Um…
Whenever anybody’d ask where she went, my parents would say her family picked her back up.
Just a nice, neat, happy ending.
What about your father?
Hope he’s fuckin’ dead.
And I hope it fuckin’ hurt.
[bartender] Faith, drinks are up.
Ahem.
Appreciate you talking to me.
Mmhmm.
Something to drink?
No. Maybe next time.
Okay.
Hey, here’s my number.
Think of anything else, give me a call?
Yep. Thanks.
Hey.
If you see Grace, um… tell her I said I’m sorry.
[Faith] Hold up! He was some kinda cop.
Grace’s dad.
It just hit me.
She was the one who used to say he was gonna come and arrest my dad, take him away.
I knew it was some little girl’s dream, but man, every time she’d say it, I fuckin’ hoped it was true.
Anyway…
[unsettling music rises]
[tense music playing]
Hey. I need a favor… offbook.
[music fades]
[birds chirping] Roscoe and I have been doing a lot of layin’ around lately, so figured couple old dogs could use a stroll.
Always loved this spot.
How’d you get on up there?
Kid was right.
Lucy had been there.
Ah.
Did you find anything that might help?
I had the lab resend Lucy’s DNA results, Paul.
I already sent you those.
Yeah.
But you took your daughter Kate off the list.
She was already in the system from her arrest last year.
[chuckling]
I love my Kate, but trouble has always stuck to her like horse shit on a boot.
She just tracks it everywhere she goes.
Lucy’s sixth birthday.
[sighs deeply]
Does Mary know?
No.
There is no way we would’ve survived that.
And the truth is, Lucy didn’t even know until Maggie’s last days.
I think Lucy was…
Well, she was afraid of being alone, so Maggie told her that… [sighs] …that I was her dad.
And she asked you to get Lucy away from Rory?
Last thing she said to me before she died.
Taking her was easy.
Everyone knew that Rory beat on her and Maggie, so…
Lucy’s disappearance, wasn’t hard to put it on him.
So what? You took her up there to get her out of state?
Yeah.
I’d heard that the Gibbs were good people, and… good at keeping secrets too, if you paid ’em enough.
I…
Kyle, I thought Lucy would be safe there.
I swear to God I did.
And you told her you’d come back for her.
You’d only be gone a little while.
I don’t know. Maybe I did. I was…
I was tryin’ to do right by Lucy and by Maggie, but I had a…
I had a wife and a family to look after and protect.
And then when Rory was killed for it, there was no way to make it right.
Not even when she ran away, came back here to you?
I would’ve lost everything. Job, family…
I told Lucy that I would help her, I would find her somewhere better to live.
But she ran off.
Hard to blame her… after where she ended up the first time.
I let her down.
Yeah.
I never saw her again after that day. Never.
Breaks my heart she got mixed up with Maguire and…
Ah… [sputters] I’m gonna need your huntin’ rifles.
Run ballistics.
Jesus Christ, Kyle.
I tell you the biggest secret of my life, and you jump from that to… me killing my own child?
I’m gonna call Dixon, tell him to go to your place and collect them.
You might wanna let Mary know he’s coming.
Well, I don’t know how I’m gonna explain it to her, but if that’s the only way to get all this cleared up, sure.
Kyle! Kyle. Wait, wait, wait. Wait.
[somber music plays]
I’ve lent my guns to folks, to huntin’ friends.
Most of the time I’m with them, but not always, and I’m…
I… I don’t know exactly who’s…
Who’s…
Oh, goddammit.
Uh… [hesitates] I didn’t even know Lucy was still in the park until a year or so ago.
She came to my house.
Wantin’ money. I gave it to her.
And that became a regular event, the price going up with each visit, along with threats of what she’d do to me if… if I didn’t pay.
All the ways she could hurt me.
I tried to tell her how sorry I was, but she was past all that.
She just wanted me to feel the same pain as I’d put her through.
And then the last time…
I was looking after Sadie, I thought she was nappin’ in her room, but when I went in, there was just… there was just a note on the pillow.
It said, “Me and Sadie are gonna visit Lester.”
Oh God. [grunts] So I raced all through the woods lookin’ and lookin’ and I…
And then I got a call.
Someone had spotted Sadie up on the ridge above Maggie’s old place.
When I got Sadie back home safe, I went after Lucy.
I was just gonna…
I was gonna make her listen somehow.
Tell her this couldn’t keep goin’ on.
[somber music rising]
And then when I saw her, I just wanted her to stop so I could talk to her.
Kyle, I swear on my life, I never meant to hurt her.
[gunshot echoing]
[gasps softly]
Then when I saw her go down, I…
I knew that she thought I was tryin’ to kill her.
I knew she needed help now, but I’d lost her.
Until I picked up her trail again going towards El Capitan.
[Lucy gasping]
[grunting]
[whimpering]
[grunting]
[music fades out calmly]
[wind blowing]
[eagle screeching]
[wind whistling]
[wind chimes jangling]
[jangling continues]
[inhales sharply]
[exhales deeply]
[melancholy music builds slowly]
I… I just wanted her to know that I had to protect my family.
That’s what
She was family, Paul.
Christ!
Lucy was family.
I’ve made mistakes, goddammit, but none of this was supposed to happen.
You have to make this right.
You have to make this right.
I can’t.
[dramatic music playing]
God.
Kyle?
Kyle.
I can…
I can fix your suspension.
I can… I can make sure you stay in the park with Caleb.
What would I tell him about Lucy?
[sighing] Oh, Christ…
[music builds intensity]
Kyle!
Kyle, stop!
Stop!
I’m sorry!
[gunshot]
[Roscoe barks]
[whining]
[softly] Oh, God.
[breathing deeply]
[emotional music playing]
[sharp rhythmic drumming]
[fire whooshes]
[drumming continues]
[sweeping, mysterious music playing]
[muffled exhale echoing]
[Caleb] Come on!
I’m sorry.
I don’t think I’m ready yet.
[Caleb] That’s okay.
No matter where I am… or where I go… you’ll always be with me.
[Caleb] I know, Dad.
[music fades out]
[chuckles]
[gentle redemptive music playing]
[horse snorts]
[music continues]
[horse snorts]
[clicks tongue]
[music continues]
[music continues]
