The Azure Dragon appears to be a standard rock hopper rigged with a shit ton of scopes, antennae, and sensor arrays.

It’s on the float and running dark.

And we’re gonna capture it.

Our mission was search and destroy.

The old lady wants the data that could be on board.

She’s got a Marine Corps for that.

She believes the Roci is the best option for this operation.

And why is that?

Avasarala’s lost strike teams before.

And the optics of losing another one aren’t good politically.

We’re an independent ship.

If we fuck up, it’s on us, not her.

It’s about morale.

We’ve been on the ropes for too long, and we need a win.

We’re not gonna fuck it up.

Boarding and shooting is a whole lot riskier than sending a torpedo up their ass.

That’s the rogue MCRN fleet exiting the Ring Space, and that’s the Barkeith.

That is not a normal transit.

[heart pounding]

[Clarissa] I got it.

She had a technical malfunction.

[Holden] What the fuck are you talking about?

What’s going on?

[Bobbie] If I’m back up, they’re getting close to back up too.

We won’t want to be here when this ship takes off again or blows up.

[Holden] Airlock field is secure.

[Bobbie] As expected. Go for breach.

[Amos] Breaching charges going on now.

[Bobbie] Status on the reactor.

Clarissa, give me an update.

[Clarissa] It’s like they made this out of old scraps.

Nothing here makes sense.

[Holden] We’re ready for breach.

[Amos] We going in or what?

[Bobbie] Clock’s ticking, Clarissa.

Can you kill the reactor or not?

Clarissa, you need to find the magnetic bottle power feed line.

It’ll be the most heavily shielded cable in there.

Most likely that black-looking one under the conduit.

[Clarissa grunts]

[gunfire]

Clarissa’s hurt.

God damn it, I have to get her back to the Roci ASAP.

[gunfire]

[Holden] Clear. [Amos] Clear.

Drive is still offline.

Bobbie.

Naomi, it looks like they were trying to wipe their data core.

We’ll need the Roci to crack the encryption.

Well, for the past several hours, every officer on this ship has been walking around as if their sphincters had just been tightened by three notches.

And your comms director just blasted out a reminder of media’s obligations under the War Security Act, which means something really, really bad happened.

Or we caught a break.

I didn’t bring you here to talk about that.

[Avasarala] You’ll get the good news in short order.

I want to commission a project from you.

I want the Belt to see what it’s doing to us.

The feeds are full of numbers and political rhetoric.

I want them to see the people they’ve hurt.

I do, and if I need a public service announcement about intimate disease, they’re fine.

But you have a following and you have style.

I have credibility that state media doesn’t have, and you’d like to exploit it.

I’m not asking you to lie for me.

I’m asking you to tell the truth.

Not just the statistics, but what they mean.

The lives we’ve lost.

The pain we’ve suffered.

All the things regular newsfeeds skip.

That’s not gonna change any Belter’s minds.

[Avasarala] It might. A few on the margins.

You can put a human face on us.

And make it just a little harder for them to feel good about killing Earthers.

Or don’t and wonder with every new attack if that was the one you could have stopped and you chose not to.

[solemn music]

And I’m pretty sure it could have peeled Bobbie’s shell open if it hit her.

This is partly my fault.

The only real reason I let you stay aboard was as a favor to Amos.

And that’s how I’ve been thinking about you, as an obligation.

But we had a plan, and when you changed that plan without going through the chain of command,

you put all of us at risk.

I’m the captain of this ship, and as long as you’re part of the crew, you do what I say when I say.

If you see a problem, you talk to me first so everyone knows what’s going on.

No more deciding for yourself what the new plan is.

[door whooshes]

[laughs]

You know you just got chewed out, right?

That’s the first time he said I was part of the crew.

[soft dramatic music]

[pilot] Don’t know how the Dusters found us.

They jam us, hit us with EMP… but we got a surprise for them too.

Gonya wipe data core now.

[explosion]

[gunshot]

[Rosenfeld] The Azure Dragon is gone.

Our scopes are showing nothing at its expected location and no indication it was destroyed.

They captured it.

If they got the data core intact, they’ll be able to locate the rocks that are still in flight and all the rest that are ready to launch.

♪ ♪

And the moment that happens, they’ll redeploy their fleets and head out.

[laughs]

No need to be so glum.

You said the fight would come soon enough, and here it is.

The Inners were never going to give Ceres up.

They’re sentimental that way.

Let them come.

We’ll be ready.

[soft dramatic music]
