The Asset – S01E06 – What Was Your Name Again? | Full transcript

[uneasy music playing]

[breathing deeply]

[Tea] I had to tell her who I was.

[Folke] Why the hell didn’t you talk to me first?

[Tea] She wouldn’t talk to you because she was covering for me.

[Folke] Don’t you understand the consequences?

If everything falls apart, it’ll be on you.

Don’t you get that?!

[bangs table]

[Yasin] Are you okay?

Listen, he already lost an asset.

He’s trying to protect you.

[phone rings quietly]

[unsettling music playing]

[phone continues ringing]

[button clicks]

[phone rings]

[Miran] Who was it?

It was just Sara.

Why didn’t you answer?

Uh…

Did you guys fight?

[sighs]

It’s not that.

It’s just that I can’t think about anything except Sofia right now.

[cabinet door opens]

[cabinet door closes]

[knocking on door]

Hi.

Does this apartment even belong to you?

Of course not.

A cop can’t afford this, right?

What’s your real name again?

Tea.

Tea…

Ash, I just want–

Don’t call me Ash!

Only my friends call me Ash.

So, was everything you told me a lie?

The only thing I lied about was my name… and my job.

Jeweler? I suppose that I’d fall head over heels for you, right?

That was pretty smart.

I must have been such a fucking idiot.

So correct me if I’m wrong.

I bared my soul to you so I could become someone like you, and it was all a lie.

And all that about your mom?

And about that ex-boyfriend you left?

[Tea] That’s all true.

You have to understand that–

Who the hell do you think you are?

You think you’re better than me, is that it?

You think I’m just some stupid bitch who doesn’t get it and that you can just use me? Is that it?

And Sofia… who keeps asking for you.

Do you have you any idea how fucking sick that is?

[dark music playing]

[breathing shakily]

You must be so… broken inside… that you can no longer feel anything!

[darkly intriguing music playing]

What do you wanna know?

[takes a deep breath]

Everything you know.

Okay.

But only with your boss.

I don’t trust you anymore.

Yeah, of course.

[Yasin] Tea was in Miran’s office.

She took these photos.

Invoices for car and truck rentals.

All from the same day, but in different parts of the country.

[Folke] How come we haven’t discovered any of this before?

[Yasin] Because he rented them in Bambi’s name.

After he died.

I also checked the website for the transportation company.

And I noticed that one of the company owners is this man.

Recognize him?

[Folke] Should I?

He was at Bambi’s funeral.

The last shipment was this weekend.

[door opens] Ashley wants to meet you.

What?

You wanted her to talk…

Well, she’s waiting outside.

[Folke] What did you tell her?

[Tea] Trust me.

She wants to help.

[intriguing music playing]

[intriguing music continues]

THE ASSET

[beeps]

What do you know about Miran’s businesses?

I don’t really know that much.

But you’ve helped him.

I’ve… transported stuff.

I’ve hidden stuff.

What stuff?

Cash, usually.

And do you have any idea where that cash came from?

Drug deals.

He’s been selling drugs since I’ve known him.

So you were aware, then?

I never asked to be involved in any of Miran’s affairs.

[Folke] It’s a bit late to realize that.

How many times have you helped him?

[Ashley] A few times.

How many?

Ten, maybe 12.

I don’t know.

[Folke] And what did you get in return?

[uneasy music playing]

[Ashley] Clothes, jewelry…

[Folke] Our intelligence reports indicate that Miran received a big shipment recently.

What can you tell me about that?

[Ashley] I don’t know anything about any shipments.

Miran doesn’t talk to me about that stuff.

[Folke] You should think really hard about this.

If you can give us any information that would lead to his arrest, I will do everything in my power to get Sofia back.

The other night…

Miran came home with a lot of blood on his hands.

He tried to hide it, of course, but I saw it.

I’ve been looking for his clothes but I can’t find them.

I know Miran.

If it wasn’t serious, he wouldn’t have tried to hide them.

[Folke] Any idea whose blood it was?

I don’t know.

[Folke] Where had he been?

[Ashley] I’ve no idea.

[Folke] As long as Miran’s a free man, Sofia is not coming back.

And for us to bring charges against him, we need tangible evidence.

I want to see my daughter.

[Ashley] Okay, so where does this one go, sweetie?

[Sofia] Hm, I think that one goes over there, because there are two of them.

Mom?

[Ashley] Mmhmm.

[Sofia] Where’s Dad?

Dad’s working, sweetie.

That’s really good.

[Folke] We need to know who the blood belongs to.

[Ashley speaking indistinctly]

[Folke] We need it to nail him.

For all we know, she may already have told Miran.

[Tea] I know she didn’t.

You know?

[Tea] I trust her.

[Folke] Okay, so you’re saying that you know this woman.

Well, now’s the time to prove it.

Go talk to her.

[exhales]

I know this is difficult, but you need to get more information for us.

What does that mean?

Where Miran was that night.

And… where the blood came from.

And how am I supposed to do that?

He’ll never talk to me about that.

Ashley, Sofia’s case is up for review.

And he comes home covered in blood.

You have to stop, Ashley.

You can’t keep covering for him like this.

It’s not fair on you and it’s not fair on Sofia.

You know that.

[Ashley] I don’t think I can do this.

Tell him that you saw him that night with blood on his hands.

Tell him that you can’t do this anymore.

You have to come down on him hard.

He has to feel threatened.

And make sure that the phones are nearby so we can listen in.

I guess playing a snitch doesn’t come easy to me.

[door opens]

[door closes]

Hi!

[Miran] Hi, honey.

Did you have a nice day?

It was fine.

Hi.

What’d you do?

Nothing that special, actually.

There are leftovers in the fridge.

[Miran] Thanks, but I’m not really that hungry.

What’s wrong?

[Ashley] Nothing, why?

The way you’re looking at me.

Did something happen, or…

No.

Okay.

Where were you the other night?

What do you mean?

Remember the other night, when Sara was here, and you came home late?

Where had you been?

[Miran] Are you accusing me of something?

[Ashley] Can you just answer the question?

[Miran] You should stay out of it, Ash.

I saw your hands.

I have no idea what you’re talking about.

Stop treating me like a fool, Miran, okay?

We could lose Sofia, and you’re still fucking around with your bullshit.

[dramatic music playing]

Please tell me what happened.

[suspenseful music playing]

Otherwise, I’m leaving.

I’m serious, Miran.

I won’t come back this time.

What do you wanna know?

I wanna know everything.

I wanna know where you were.

I wanna know what you were doing.

I met the guy who killed Bambi.

Oh…

Miran, God damn it.

What have you done?

Miran?

What have you done?

[Miran] He killed my brother because he had a problem with me.

I had to do something.

I didn’t know what else he might do, and I couldn’t take the risk of losing anyone else.

I’m done with all this, Ashley.

I had to do it.

It’s over now.

I promise.

We’re going to get our Sofia back.

[indistinct chatter on TV]

[suspenseful music playing]

[phone buzzing]

Hey, what’s up?

[Ashley] I can’t.

He’s a good man. He doesn’t deserve this!

Ashley.

He’s not a killer!

You did the right thing.

It’s the only way you’ll get Sofia back.

Trust me.

[exhales]

[menacing note plays]

Shit. You scared me, honey.

Who were you talking to?

I was just calling Sara.

She’s been trying to reach me all day.

Let me see.

See what?

Your phone.

RECENT What are you doing?

[Ashley] Let’s make a video, sweetie.

[Sofia] Okay, sure.

[Ashley] We look so cute together.

[Sofia] Yeah.

[Ashley] I’ll watch it before I sleep tonight.

Yeah.

[Sofia] No, Mom!

[Ashley] Yes, because it’s so cute.

When did you see her?

[Ashley] Which one you like best?

This one?

Today.

[Miran] Today?

[Ashley laughs in video]

How’d you manage that?

Uh, I went over.

You went there?

That’s odd, because last time you threw a fit with the counselor, but now you just walk in?

[fridge door opens]

[scratchy interference over recording]

[phone hangs up]

[rapid typing on keyboard]

[Yasin] Damn it.

[Folke] We need to get all the necessary warrants to move now. Get ahold of Jensen.

[exhales]

[Miran] What’s going on?

Nothing.

Ashley, I can tell from that look on your face you’re lying.

I’m not lying.

Sure you are!

Tell me what the fuck is going on!

Come on, Ashley!

I’m sorry.

What have you done?

Sorry.

Who did you talk to, Ashley?

And what have you done to me?

I… I made a deal.

What deal? With who?

Ash, tell me.

Police.

[tense music playing]

What have you done?

I can’t fuckin’ believe it.

Miran.

Can’t fuckin’ believe it.

Miran, they would…

They would have arrested you anyway.

They know everything, they’ve been spying on us.

[tense music continues]

Miran.

Fuck!

You’ve ruined…

Fuck, fuck.

How did they spy on us?

Huh? How did they manage it?

How did they do it, huh?

Lots of different ways…

No. Tell me, Ash…

How did they manage to spy on us, hmm?

They used my phone, they bugged it. They followed us…

Sara.

She’s not…

She’s not a real jeweler, she’s a cop.

No way.

I swear I didn’t know anything.

I just found out about her.

I don’t believe it.

They know everything, Miran.

That can’t be true, Ashley.

How could you do this?

Huh?

Huh?!

[Ashley] I’m sorry.

[Miran] This can’t be happening.

[crying] I’m sorry.

I’m sorry… I’m sorry, Miran.

I’m sorry.

I’m so sorry.

[Folke] We got the green light from legal to move in on the house.

We’re arresting both of them.

Ashley won’t be charged, because she’s helping us now, right?

Well, she’s an accomplice.

So what does she get out of this?

She gets rid of her husband.

So we’ve lied to her?

[Folke] I didn’t lie to her.

I told her that the chances of getting Sofia back are much better with Miran in jail.

I stand by that, even if she does time as well.

Tell the SWAT team to get ready.

We’re going in now.

[footsteps receding]

[door closes]

[intriguing music playing]

Ashley! Call as soon as you get this message.

They’re on the way over to your house.

You need to get out of there.

Meet me at the park at the same place.

[thunder rumbling]

I’M HERE NOW

[phone buzzes]

[officer] Don’t move!

Hands behind your back!

[dark music playing]

[cable tie zips]

[door opening]

Where is he?

He’s not here.

[Folke] He’s not here.

Move in on the other sites.

[suspenseful music playing]

Get down! Get down!

[loud bang]

[officer 1] Police!

[officer 2] Police!

Check left.

[thunder rumbles]

[phone ringing]

[Miran] Hey.

Let’s go for a little walk.

[gun clicks]

[phone ringing]

[ominous music playing]

Usually, I can smell cops from miles away.

[Tea exhales]

What about Ashley?

What have you got on her?

They know that she helped you before.

And they know she’s been covering for you.

[Miran] Okay.

And what about Sofia?

Will she ever get to go home again?

No.

[thunder rumbling]

Not if both of her parents are in jail.

[Miran] I trusted you.

And so did Ashley.

[Tea gasps]

[Miran] I fuckin’ trusted you!

I invited you into my home!

[Tea choking] You looked after my daughter!

[Tea gasping and struggling]

You were at my brother’s funeral!

[struggling and choking]

[struggling and choking continue]

[Tea] Ashley! You need to help Ashley!

Stop.

[gasping] You need to help her.

Help Ashley.

YouTalk!

You need to confess.

It’s the only way to help Ashley.

PET won’t stop. They want you.

And they will catch you.

If you run now, you will only hurt Ashley and Sofia even more.

That much I do know.

[Tea gasps] So what do I do?

You have to confess, and you need to clear Ashley’s name.

That way, Sofia will at least have her mother.

Trust me.

You cannot run away, Miran.

What use are you to me, then?

[indistinct chatter]

[phone ringing]

It’s him.

Put him on speaker.

Hi, honey.

[Miran] Hi.

Are the police there?

No.

Let me talk to them.

[Folke] Yeah.

[thunder crashes]

[somber music playing]

[officer] Police! On the ground!

Down! On the ground!

[car door closes]

[Ashley on recording] What have you done?

Miran?

What have you done?

[Miran] He killed my brother because he had a problem with me.

I had to do something about it.

Sounds like a confession to me.

Call it what you want.

[Folke] Where’s the body?

[sinister music playing]

[Folke] Where did you put the body?

[Miran] East Haven.

[Folke] And what about your business?

[Miran] I’ve no idea what you’re talking about.

[Folke] I think you do.

[Folke on recording] And do you have any idea where the cash came from?

[Ashley] Drug deals.

[Folke] How many times have you helped him?

[Ashley] A few times.

[Folke] How many?

[Ashley] Ten, maybe 12.

[Folke] And what did you get in return?

[Ashley] Clothes… Jewelry…

She’s telling the truth.

I kept her imprisoned.

I threatened her to keep her quiet and I threatened her to work for me.

I used her fear of me against her.

It’s true what she said.

But everything she said was because you intimidated her.

[somber music playing]

[Folke] If you say so.

Are we done?

[Folke] Where’s the coke?

[Miran] You’re wasting your time.

You won’t get anything from me.

[pensive music playing]

[dog barking]

[indistinct police radio chatter]

1 MONTH LATER

[solemn music playing]

[sighs]

[Sofia] Yeah, very!

[Ashley] Are you excited?

I’m super excited!

Go on, off you go.

[Ashley] This is our home now.

Wanna see your room?

It’s over there.

[Sofia] It’s like my own princess castle.

Yeah, I suppose you’re right.

[laughs]

Incredible how easy it was to get a confession out of Miran.

You wanted a confession, and you got it.

[Folke] Yes, but we’re never going to find the drugs.

Your security clearance came up for review again.

We have an opening at PET.

[scoffs] Okay.

You seem surprised.

I wasn’t expecting to get a new job offer considering that I blew my cover.

True, but all things considered, it’s probably safer for you to work here.

So what’s your answer?

[Tea] I can take care of myself.

I don’t think I’m a good fit.

In my opinion, you are a much better fit than you think.

Well, maybe I just don’t wanna fit in.

[pensive music playing]

[Sofia] Sara!

[Tea] Hi, Sofia.

Hi there.

Sofia.

It’s okay, go see your mom.

[Ashley] Sweetie, go play over there.

Mom just wants to talk with Sara for a second, okay?

[kisses]

What do you want?

I came to see how you’re doing.

Okay.

Well… are you okay?

Am I okay?

I mean…

How are you?

How are you both?

All of my stuff was confiscated and…

I live in a shitty apartment with Sofia while my husband is in jail.

And it’s all because of you.

I came here to say that I’m sorry.

Just leave.

I don’t know what to do with your apology.

I have no idea who you are.

[knocking on door]

Come over here, sweetie.

Who is it?

[knocking continues]

[door opens]

Grandad!

Hello there, sweetheart.

How are you, pumpkin?

[Sofia] Good!

Why didn’t you open the door?

[Sofia] I dunno.

Why are you here?

Is that how you welcome your father-in-law?

I just came to see how you were doing.

Sweetheart, I need to talk to your mom.

[Sofia] Mm.

Okay?

[Ashley] Sofia, go play in your room.

[running footsteps receding]

[door closes]

It’s kinda… small.

Yeah.

I couldn’t really afford to stay there anymore.

I’ll take care of both of you.

That’s very nice of you, but I’d prefer to do it myself.

Sofia is the only thing I have left now.

You’ve ruined my entire family.

Do you understand?

You have to keep her healthy and safe.

Can you promise me you’ll do that?

Yes.

[footsteps receding]

[door opens]

[door closes]

[exhales]

Does the red teddy bear belong to you, sweetie?

[Sofia] I found it in the box when I got home.

[fabric ripping]

[suspenseful music playing]

[Yasin] Hey.

Still keeping an eye on me?

I don’t have to.

Are you okay?

I don’t really know.

Feeling empty. Worthless.

You turned down Folke’s job offer?

I don’t think it’s for me.

You were good.

[Yasin] I know that sometimes this job can seem pointless.

But you just have to find your own way.

And you did.

You wanted to help Ashley and Sofia, and you did.

I’m telling you, that’s not nothing.

[thunder rumbling]

Maybe.

[gasps] Go!

[gun firing]

[car revving]

[horn blaring]

[crashing]

[tires squealing]

[car alarm sounding]

[sinister music playing]

[Yasin groaning]

Hey.

Tea?

Hey.

Tea? Hey.

Tea?

[car alarm continues]

[dark music playing]

So? Are you okay?

Yeah.

[monitor beeping rhythmically]

Hi.

[weakly] Hi.

Did you see who it was?

We’ll find them.

[suspenseful music playing]

[lock chimes]
