The Asset – S01E05 – Into the Deep | Full transcript

[Tea over recording] Ashley.

You have to go home.

[Ashley] Why?

[Tea] Because you haven’t thought this through.

You can’t leave him like that.

[Ashley] That’s what you did.

[Tea] Yes, but I didn’t have a child.

When Miran wakes up tomorrow morning and notices that you and Sofia are gone, it’s just gonna make things worse.

If you really want to leave him, you need a plan.

I can help you.

I promise.

She turns up at your place saying she wants to leave him, and you offer to help her?

She was a total wreck.

Yeah, and easily influenced too.

If only you had been more focused on the actual mission.

I sent her and Sofia back to Miran immediately after.

What more could I do?

You really think she’ll leave him?

[Tea] Yes, probably.

Then talk her out of it.

She wouldn’t leave for no reason.

[Folke] We need her.

Ashley knows things.

She can help us stop Miran.

So we can’t have her leaving him.

At least not just yet.

[metallic zipping]

[giggles]

[Sofia] Whee!

[indistinct playful shouting and chatter]

[Miran] Were you trying to leave me?

What?

The other night with Sofia.

You tried to leave.

It’s okay.

I understand, Ash.

I really messed up.

[zip line buzzing]

I’ve been under a lot of pressure lately.

I’m sorry.

Okay?

It won’t ever happen again.

I promise.

[Sofia] Again!

Together?

[Sofia] Yeah.

No, you’re too heavy. You can’t.

Of course we can.

[Miran laughing]

[Ashley] No.

[Sofia] Whee!

[quiet, uneasy music playing]

Ashley?

POLICE Hello.

We’re with Child Protection Services.

I’m Christoffer, and this is my colleague Birgitte.

And what is the police doing here?

It’s part of the procedure for these kinds of visits.

We’re here to talk about Sofia.

That must be you.

Hi, Sofia.

What do you mean, “Here for Sofia”?

Let’s talk about this inside, shall we?

What are you doing here?

Let’s all go inside and we can talk about it.

[uneasy music playing]

Come, sweetie.

You can have a seat over there.

Thanks.

Thanks. Okay.

Why don’t we let the grownups talk alone for a moment?

Sweetie, could you please go to your room?

Okay. Thanks.

[footsteps receding]

[Christoffer] Thank you.

[Birgitte] Thank you.

[chair scrapes]

[Christoffer clears throat]

Okay. As you probably already know, we received a report concerning Sofia.

While the matter is still under review, a provisional decision has been made which requires that we place Sofia elsewhere during the investigation.

What do you mean?

[Christoffer] We’ve been asked to take Sofia into our care today.

What the hell are you talking about?

[Christoffer] Sofia will be placed in temporary care starting today.

And you will be asked to attend a meeting–

Sofia is not going anywhere today.

What’s in the report?

We don’t have access to that information.

We’re just here to pick up Sofia in an orderly and civilized manner.

[Birgitte] We know it comes as a shock when we show up like this, but if we can just work together–

You’re not taking Sofia away, okay?

Feel free to tell your boss to come here himself if he wants to talk.

You’re not taking her.

[Miran] Wait.

What’s she doing?

What are you doing? Answer me.

We don’t want the situation to escalate.

Hey! Wait, don’t tell me you’re going to go get the police!

Hey! I’m talking to you!

[Miran] Ashley.

You’re not taking my daughter away, got it?

You need to let go of me.

Ashley, for your own sake–

You get the fuck out of my house right now! You got it?

[officer] Calm down, ma’am.

You’re not taking my daughter. Understand?

Whoa! Hey, hey! Take it easy!

You leave my daughter alone! Let me go!

Put me down! Get off me!

You need to calm down immediately.

[Miran] Calm down. Ashley!

Don’t take her! Please!

Sweetie!

[officer] Sofia, come here.

[Ashley] No! Sweetie, don’t go with them!

Calm down, ma’am.

Just doing our job. Take it easy.

Don’t go with them!

Get the fuck off of me!

Sofia. Sofia. Come here.

[Ashley] Sweetie, don’t go with them.

Everything’ll be all right.

Give me two seconds with my daughter.

[Birgitte] Sofia must come with us.

Everything’s fine.

Come here, sweetie.

Please don’t grab her like that!

Give me a moment.

[Ashley] Leave my daughter alone!

[Miran] Hey, take it easy.

Why are you doing this?

[Ashley] You get it? She’s my daughter!

Dad?

I’ll come for you!

Dad!

[Ashley] Leave me alone!

Hey!

[Ashley] Get off me!

Stay back.

[Ashley sobs] [Ashley wailing] No! No!

[Sofia] Dad!

Sofia!

[Ashley] No!

[dramatic music playing]

Sofia!

Sofia. I’ll come get you, I promise.

I’ll come get you. Okay?

Everything’s okay. You’ll be all right.

Dad will come get you.

Be strong. Everything is fine. Okay?

Everything’s fine, sweetie.

Please, two more minutes.

Everything’s gonna be all right, sweetie.

I love you.

[somber music playing]

[Ashley sobs]

[phone ringing]

Hi, Ash.

[Ashley] They took her. They took–

Wait, I can’t understand what you’re saying. Slow down.

They came out of nowhere and just took my kid. [sobbing]

[Ashley continues indistinctly]

THE ASSET

[Tea] Can we talk for a minute?

[Folke] Can it wait?

No.

Sofia’s been taken away?

[Folke] Yes.

This has something to do with us?

Yes.

We just sped up a process that was already underway.

What for?

To pressure him.

Uh… This is how PET works?

By traumatizing a child?

[Folke] This is a huge case we’re all working on.

Teamwork, Tea.

There’s always a child that’s involved.

Unfortunately, the child pays for the father’s crimes, no matter what happens.

That’s not what this is about.

And what is this about?

Is it related to your growing attachment to our target?

Miran is our target!

Not Sofia or Ashley!

As long as Ashley is part of his life and helping him, they’re both our targets.

You said it yourself that you were worried about Sofia.

Or have you forgotten?

Ashley is vulnerable right now.

[tense music playing]

Use that.

Be her friend and be there for her.

Your next step is to convince her to come talk to me.

Talk to PET?

Yes, it’s time for us to make our move.

[Tea] I refuse to be a part of this.

[dark music playing]

[baby crying in background]

What do you want me to make?

What about a flower?

[Sofia] Sure.

When can I come home, Mom?

Very soon, sweetie.

Right?

Yeah.

That’s a very nice drawing.

Is it the three of us?

Who is it, then?

Me, Mom, and Sara.

You, Mom, and Sara?

What about Dad? You’re not drawing him?

[Miran] It’s okay, sweetheart.

No, she should draw you too.

It’s fine.

You should, sweetie.

[Sofia] No.

[Ashley] No?

[Sofia] Mmmm.

[Ashley] Draw us as a family.

There’s plenty of room.

Put him there, next to Mommy.

[Sofia whines] Ashley.

You have space there. Draw your father.

No! I don’t want to!

It’s okay, Sofia.

Don’t do anything you don’t want to do.

[Ashley] Of course she shouldn’t do anything she doesn’t want to do.

Ashley.

We’re having fun drawing.

That’s all we’re doing.

[woman] I can see Sofia’s getting upset right now.

Even if you’re just having fun drawing, you can create a dynamic that Sofia has trouble handling.

Okay.

That’s why we’re here. To help.

Yeah. Um, Sofia is my daughter.

Mmhmm.

You met her… what, a minute ago?

[Miran] Ashley.

Isn’t it a bit strange that I have to sit here and listen to you talk about Sofia as if you knew her?

I don’t know Sofia.

Ashley.

But I know the types of family dynamics and signals from parents that some children can have a hard time dealing with.

[Ashley] Okay.

Take it easy, Ash.

Stop it.

[woman] We can talk after the session, or end everything right now.

I don’t know what we have to talk about.

I’m not going to pretend that everything is fine when we’re forced to sit in this shitty room to be able to see our daughter!

All right, I think we’re done for today.

[melancholy music playing]

Sorry.

I’m sorry, sweetie.

I’m sorry.

[somber music playing]

They took her because of your job.

You know that, right?

It has nothing to do with–

It has everything to do with that!

All our problems are because of what you do.

[angrily] You’re blaming me, whereas you freaked out with the counselor?

Huh? Because you can’t control your fucking temper?!

Is that it?!
