Season 3 – Episode 10
Episode title: Beginning of the End
Original release date: January 16, 2026 (Starz)

The series finale of Power Book IV: Force arrives with all the breathless urgency of a man sprinting toward a closing subway door—lots of motion, considerable sweat, and the nagging question of whether the destination was worth the effort. For three seasons, this Chicago-set spinoff has asked us to accept Joseph Sikora’s Tommy Egan as a criminal mastermind capable of conquering an entire city’s drug trade, and in “Beginning of the End,” the show finally delivers on that promise while simultaneously revealing just how hollow such victories tend to be.

The episode opens at a funeral, which is fitting because the Power franchise has always been death-obsessed, treating corpses as plot currency to be spent liberally whenever the narrative requires momentum. Patricia Kalember’s Kate stands at the pulpit delivering a speech about maternal abandonment that cuts deeper than anything else in the hour—”What kind of mother puts herself before her own child?” she asks, weeping, and for a moment the show achieves something like genuine pathos. Kalember has always been the secret weapon of this series, bringing weathered dignity to a role that could have been mere addiction-drama cliché. Her departure for New York to preserve her sobriety represents the episode’s most emotionally honest thread, a quiet acknowledgment that sometimes the healthiest choice is simply to leave.

Outside the church, Kris D. Lofton’s Jenard waits with his goons and a plan to assassinate Tommy that falls apart the moment he spots police protection. Lofton has turned Jenard into one of television’s great live-wire idiots—a man whose cocaine-fueled confidence consistently outpaces his strategic capabilities. The show seems both aware of this and weirdly proud of it, letting Jenard survive long past narrative logic would dictate because his chaos generates friction. When he executes a suspected traitor at point-blank range, then demands the remaining crew declare their loyalty “right the fuck now,” Lofton delivers the paranoid energy of someone who’s been awake for seventy-two hours and convinced of his own genius.

The mechanics of Tommy’s victory involve the familiar Power playbook: enemies are eliminated, alliances are forged, law enforcement is corrupted. The new U.S. Attorney, William Tseng, proves himself useful by putting a bullet in the only honest cop left in Chicago, then frames the deceased and his murdered wife for their own corruption. Alain Uy plays Tseng with the slick desperation of a man who’s already compromised everything and knows it. His press conference announcing “updated findings” in the Stacy Marks case functions as dark comedy—the official narrative constructed in real-time to serve criminal enterprise, delivered with prosecutorial gravitas.

What distinguishes this finale from countless other crime-drama conclusions is its peculiar refusal to punish anyone who matters. The climactic shootout at the lumber yard unfolds with all the usual gunfire and slow-motion heroics, but when the smoke clears, every significant character walks away breathing. Tommy survives. Miguel survives. Shanti survives. D-Mac survives. Even Jenard and Vic Flynn survive, retreating to lick their wounds and scheme their revenge. The body count consists entirely of disposable soldiers whose names we never learned—human ammunition expended to generate spectacle.

This bloodless outcome might frustrate viewers expecting the kind of operatic destruction that concluded the original “Power” series, but it reveals something about the franchise’s evolution. These shows have transformed from crime dramas with consequences into serialized mythologies where the gods occasionally battle but rarely fall. Tommy Egan isn’t a character anymore; he’s a brand extension, too valuable to the Starz portfolio to face meaningful jeopardy.

The finale’s final act brings Michael Rainey Jr.’s Tariq St. Patrick to Chicago, saving Tommy’s life and then proposing a partnership that would reunite the franchise’s scattered storylines. Their rooftop conversation plays like a business pitch disguised as familial reconciliation—Tariq invoking “legacy” as the carrot to lure Tommy back to New York. Rainey has grown into the role across multiple seasons of his own spinoff, but watching him share scenes with Sikora exposes the generational gap the franchise has struggled to bridge. Sikora brings lived-in exhaustion to Tommy; he’s a man who’s survived everything and emerged hollowed. Rainey’s Tariq remains hungry in ways that feel performative rather than primal.

Carmela Zumbado’s Mireya exits via letter, removing herself from danger so Tommy can “have his head in the game”—a choice that reads as either romantic sacrifice or narrative convenience, depending on your generosity. The pregnancy subplot that’s simmered all season resolves with Mireya vanishing to Mexico (or possibly New York with Kate, the show hedges), promising future reunion while freeing Tommy for whatever adventures await.

“Power Book IV: Force” concludes not with a period but a comma, setting up the announced “Power: Legacy” continuation while leaving enough threads dangling to weave several more seasons of corporate synergy. The franchise has become too profitable to permit genuine endings—each conclusion functions as prologue, each death as setup for revenge. Whether this represents television’s future or merely its most cynical present probably depends on whether you’ve already bought your ticket for wherever Tommy Egan travels next.

[Kate] A mother’s love for her son, is different, from any relationship she’ll ever have. Oh, it’s primal. Your instinct is to protect at any cost. [voice breaking] Having to bury your child, goes against the law of nature. I wish I had more time with JP. I wish JP had more time with us. I hope to God, that the time that I have left, with the people I love, that they can forgive me for all the shit I’ve done in the past. Uh, lot of you don’t know this, but I left JP and his father, right when they needed me most. And Herman, he was a good man, who did a good job in spite of me. And I uh, I will never forgive myself for it. Because what kind of mother puts herself before her own child?

Ex-professional boxer and presumed leader of CBI, David Diamond Sampson was gunned down in a turf battle on the city’s south side last week. With new alliances being forged, the Chicago PD gang unit and the U.S. Attorney’s Office are working all angles to keep up with the rapid shifts happening in the world of illegal drugs. [Tseng] Good evening. Thank you for coming. My name is William Tseng, I’m the new U.S. Attorney for the city of Chicago. Now I’m here to announce updated findings in the murder case of former U.S. Attorney Stacy Marks. After an extensive investigation, it has been determined that over the last several weeks, Ms. Marks and her husband, CPD Lieutenant Robert DiFranco, were engaged in a corrupt relationship with members of Chicago’s most notorious gang. Now, our investigation uncovered that through this corrupt relationship, Ms. Marks and Mr. DiFranco took hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes to fund Ms. Marks’ mayoral campaign in exchange for her using her power and influence to allow crime to run rampant on our city streets. Now, as the new U.S. Attorney, I am committed to ridding this city of every ounce of corruption, and I am further committed to continuing to make Chicago one of the safest and most vibrant cities in this great nation.
