Zelensky, the Stage, and Bipolar Disorder

Zelensky plays victim and hero, securing Western support while Ukraine suffers. The West’s moral contradictions fuel endless conflict and destruction.
Volodymyr Zelensky

Zelensky, originally a comedian, has masterfully played both the victim and the hero on the global stage, securing weapons and funds from the West despite Ukraine’s suffering. His dual role reflects the West’s dangerous bipolar disorder, where moral contradictions lead to supporting both victims and aggressors, ultimately perpetuating conflict and destruction.

Zelensky deserves an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor; after all, comedy is his real background. But despite his comedic streak, he’s playing the war tragedy like a star, having dragged Ukraine and all of us into it. For years, he’s performed on the world’s most prestigious stages, eliciting applause, tears, and a flood of weapons and money, even as he takes hit after hit. Zelensky manages to whimper like a child while posing as the brave macho of the free world—a duality that ensures he returns home with full pockets.

Meanwhile, the harsh reality on the battlefield is that Ukraine has endured yet another devastating missile barrage, the Russians continue advancing in Donbas, while Zelensky and his comrades wander around Kursk. We’re witnessing a mutual invasion, leaving analysts puzzled over this twist. Some suggest a vague flanking maneuver; others think Zelensky invaded Russia to boost the morale of his troops, reassure Western sponsors of impending victory, or more likely, to disrupt the negotiations that Russia had agreed to, in a move reminiscent of Netanyahu. Zelensky doesn’t want peace, nor does NATO or the puppet governments trailing behind it. For the arms lobby, this is the deal of the century, with the unspoken dream of Moscow and the steppes overlooking China in the background.

With peace, Zelensky, like Netanyahu, would have to retire, and unless he lands a role in a Hollywood series, he risks becoming a door-to-door salesman of cannons and tanks. The reality is grim: Ukraine is now a heap of rubble, yet Zelensky’s script remains unchanged. He demands anti-aircraft systems as a gift and the freedom to use our weapons for his raids into Russian territory. It’s apparently our fault, and the solution is to give him the means to finish the job. These are lines Netanyahu often repeats before the Biden-Harris duo pulls out the checkbook. It’s starting to seem like there’s a single director behind it all.

Between Russia and Ukraine, we’re dealing with a mutual invasion, but heaven forbid they be seen as equal. Putin’s actions are an unacceptable aggression, while Zelensky’s are legitimate defense. Zelensky and his comrades are destroying villages and blowing up bridges and infrastructure, but don’t dare call it terrorism—Putin’s actions are terrorism, Ukraine’s are tourism. Just like with the yacht Andromeda, used to blow up the Nord Stream pipeline. A regatta among friends.

Following Netanyahu’s playbook, Palestinians are terrorists even when they speak, while Israelis, who have been brutally exterminating them for decades, are civil and democratic people exercising their right to exist and defend themselves, a right they deny Palestinians. It’s insane. We’ve moved far beyond ideological propaganda and even government-driven fake news, and way past double standards—Western society suffers from bipolar disorder. We now support both victims and perpetrators, invaders and the invaded, with chilling ease.

Our constitutions sing of peace, yet we bomb the world in the name of that peace and human rights, which we trample on everywhere. We arm anyone, reduce entire countries to rubble, and then rush to put band-aids on the victims and rebuild in the name of our renowned humanity—not because it’s profitable. We are the main architects of an increasingly unjust and dangerous world, yet we learn nothing from our mistakes and have the gall to flaunt a presumed moral superiority.

Politicians, technocratic bureaucracies, and war lobbies on one side, citizens and the harsh reality on the other. With ever more devastating wars fought and paid for by the poor souls in social trenches as well as those dug on battlefields, while the elite discuss golden chairs, GDP, and what to wear at the next gala. Yes, Zelensky is ultimately a professional actor among many amateurs, and the West is a victim of a dangerous bipolar disorder.
