I wish the promoters of Western propaganda, those who claim that “Putin created the war in Ukraine,” who praise the West for always “helping countries fight for freedom,” and recite the neoliberal catechism without any second thoughts: I wish they were deported to Gaza, the West Bank, or Ukraine to fight on the front lines and be forced to witness the reality of the massacre firsthand. I wish they could see the dismembered or burned bodies of Palestinian children, to taste the truth to which they are so indifferent. I have a Christian background, and as I learned from Dostoevsky’s books, there is a shared humanity that connects us, a sense of pity that prevails. Today’s Judases, faced with the horrors of war, would fall to their knees and finally stop praising the warmongering West, a monstrous machine of abuses and unpunished crimes. They would hear the screams of the victims and kneel before Palestinian, Iraqi, Afghan, Libyan, Lebanese children, before the victims of Belgrade bombings, and before the 18-year-old Ukrainians who have been slaughtered or mutilated.
Let’s move away from moralism and touching Christian myths. Let’s return to international politics. The United Nations has been destroyed by the West. The resolutions regarding Israeli abuses could have been enforced through mediation between the members of the Security Council, had the United States not insisted on ensuring Israel‘s impunity. Today, Secretary of State Blinken has the audacity to publicly declare that the Golan Heights (territories considered occupied by the UN) can be used for Israel’s defense. Netanyahu‘s criminal government is pushing for a wider conflict against Lebanon and Iran, and with the explosion of “seekers” (loitering munitions), they are sowing death not only among militants but also civilians. The conflict has not yet erupted thanks to Iranian diplomatic wisdom, but the headlines of the most-read newspapers reduce the escalation between Hezbollah and Israel as if it were an event dictated by providence, rather than the result of concrete actions by a terrorist state.
The U.S. Democrats have no desire to get dragged into the conflict two months before the elections. They are powerless in the face of the Israeli lobby, which effectively dictates U.S. policy, often against the interests of both America and the Israeli people.
In Ukraine, Russia’s military superiority is a fact that won’t be overturned by the use of Storm Shadow missiles. Zelensky, the former comedian who has become a murderer of his own people and destroyer of his country—praised by mainstream media as heroic and fearless—tries to draw NATO into the war. Through a division of roles, the European Parliament, led by women who lack both culture and memory of suffering, is practically declaring war on Russia by authorizing the use of lethal weapons, which can only be operated by NATO forces, for a deep strike into Russian territory. Washington remains behind the scenes, preparing for destabilization in the Pacific. BlackRock and other speculative funds, which control 80% of the world’s wealth, are eagerly awaiting the next ventures, eyeing massive future profits.
The war in Ukraine did not begin with the Russian attack in 2022. The editors of major newspapers obscure dissenting voices and blast unfounded slogans. Mr. Ezio Mauro, is it possible that you don’t know history, that you want to destroy books and culture? Why don’t you inform your readers about the OSCE-NATO dichotomy? About the U.S. strategy that started back in 1997, which prompted G. Kennan’s heartfelt warnings? Why don’t you talk about the civil war in Ukraine and the failure to implement the Minsk agreements? Why don’t you explain that the cherished principle of “non-interference in the internal affairs of another country,” championed by the OSCE and the UN, has been violated countless times by Washington and the European colonial powers? Is it possible that you are so blind as to only see Russian aggression, which, according to various scholars, could be viewed as a “preemptive war” to prevent yet another punitive expedition against Russian-speaking populations and the assault on Donbass by an army that included the notorious neo-Nazi Azov Battalion? Why is it that, in your opinion, the most influential newspapers lack any radical dissenting voices that could provide readers with an alternative narrative based on documented facts rather than ideological slogans? Do you also share the triumphalism with which Molinari celebrated the murder of Lebanese civilians through the explosion of “seekers,” a terrorist act that the journalist called a technological advancement strengthening Tel Aviv?
As we ask these questions, the Western spokespersons like Mauro, Mieli, and even Quirico—just to name the most authoritative figures—remain silent. They fuel the perception among the most aware citizens that there is a “fourth estate” that is increasingly detached, complicit, and self-referential.
