[bell ringing]

Good morning. I’m Tracy Savage with Wake Up, LA. This morning, Vice President Davis is back in Southern California. What’s on the VP’s agenda today, Marty? The vice president has a packed schedule while he’s here. The first event is a rally inside City Hall. The second is this Hollywood fundraiser gala where some of the biggest celebrities in town will be there supporting him and the president in their push for a cleaner, greener economy.

I don’t remember the homeless problem being this bad.

Yeah. Pretty tough situation on everybody.

City’s doing best they can.

They’ve spent like 22 million so far and only moved like 18 people.

I heard DC is pretty bad, too.

That’s where you’re based now, right?

Going on two weeks.

They yanked me out of London, and I was just starting to like it too.

Had my bike.

You know, loop around the canal.

What can you do when Mercury 2 asks for you personally?

Oh, you were invited personally?

Look at you, Mr. Favorite One.

Definitely not the favorite.

Just… right place, right time, I guess.

[dreary music]

[security scanning]

[door unlocks]

[sirens wailing]

Is that what I think it is?

Damn, this could be more stressful than the POTUS detail, huh?

Why is that?

Shit, think about it.

I mean, we do the same job, way more engagements, with half the staff, half the support, and [in unison] Half the pay.

Exactly.

[tense music]

[buttons beeping]

[security device pings]

[lock beeps]

[sirens wailing]

[phone beeps, ringing on the other side] Hold it.

[Owens] Go.

[Pearson] Special Agent Owens. ETA, three minutes. Prepare for the exchange. We’ll have 30 seconds.

[sirens wailing, intense music]

Hey! Go back! Get back!

You can’t be here.

[sirens wailing]

Turn around!

[Jackson] What the hell is that?

[Jackson] It’s an attack.

[Choi] Move it!

[Jackson] Go, go, go.

[Pearson] Watch out!

[explosion]

[crowd screams]

[Agent] What was that?

[Agent Two] Call it in.

[Agent Three] …all stations.

[Female Agent] Officer down.

[Choi] Mercury 2 under attack. Relocation. Need air support.

[Gunman Three] Get out of here.

[Gunman Two] He’s not here.

[Gunman Four] She doesn’t have it. Check him.

[Gunman Five] Cops are 30 seconds out.

Fuck!

[sirens wailing]

We have breaking news to report. Multiple explosions have rocked the downtown Los Angeles area. Unconfirmed reports say that the vice president’s motorcade was at the center of these attacks, with a secondary explosion right near LA City Hall. A chemical substance may have been deployed at this City Hall attack.

[sirens wailing]

Hey, hey, hey.

[Jogger] Whoa. I need your phone.

[Jogger] What?

[Choi] Please.

[Jogger] Hey. What’s going on?

Thank you.

[Jogger] Hey.

[siren wailing]

[Pilot] RNGR1, heading downtown, approaching Concert Hall. Wilson and Grant. ETA, one minute out. Multiple explosions.

Vice president’s motorcade.

En route to 110 freeway.

[phone ringing]

[female voice on phone] Identification.

45759 Charlie.

Connecting. Choi, it’s General Marshall.

What’s going on?

We’ve got reports.

Our motorcade was ambushed.

High-grade explosives, high-grade ops.

Well thought out, well executed.

Cadillac One is intact, but we’ve been split.

Where?

Jackson with you?

We are down one permanently.

Our driver was involved.

They shot him.

They killed Pearson, and they nearly got me too.

Jesus.

Jackson was carrying the football.

I got it.

But I’m all alone out here.

We’re initializing protocol.

Whiskey Mike Delta.

It’s on.

What the fuck?

Where do I go?

What do I do?

All agents downtown are ordered to the nearest safe house.

Jesus. I need an extraction, not a safe house.

Go to 22404 Wilshire Boulevard.

Shelter until further notice.

and keep it safe.

Call me from a secure line once you get there.

And Choi… don’t trust anyone.

Roger.

[Marshall] This is control. What’s the authorization for Safe House 5102?

This is Anderson.

Today’s code is…

Shit.

Ho-hold on.

[Marshall] Authorization for Safe House 5102?

Yes, I hear you.

Today’s code is Tango Charlie Romeo Romeo Five.

Authorization accepted for safe house 5102.

[Anderson sighs]

[Marshall] We have initiated a shelter in place order. It’s a Whiskey Mike Delta situation.

WMD.

That’s weapon of mass destruction.

Please prepare for three walkins.

[Anderson] Key code. Washington.

It’s Washington.

[Choi] Wa-Washington.

[door buzzes]

Okay.

You got this.

[rhythmic, tense music]

[female voice on TV] Things are moving very quickly in Washington, DC. The White House is reporting that the president has been moved to a secure location. Back here on the West Coast, the LAPD has already evacuated most of the residents and the workers from the downtown LA area. We’re going to go live now to Skye Matthews, who is reporting from the perimeter

[door opens]

He’s hurt.

Hey, hey, hey.

Hey. Easy.

The bedroom’s upstairs.

You all right?

I need a secured phone line.

Jesus. Careful.

[Anderson] What happened?

Waiting outside City Hall for the Mercury 2.

There was an explosion, some type of chemical.

[Anderson] Chemical?

Do you have a sniffer?

Yeah.

[sniffer beeps]

CS gas.

Nonlethal.

I’ve seen it in action before.

I know the signs.

I was upwind, but he got the brunt of it.

The more time I spend here explaining this, the worse he gets.

I need a med kit.

Um…um…

[Owens] Where?

The fridge.

[distant siren wailing]

Come on, keep pounding it.

That’s it, flush it out.

[rapid beeping]

We’re fine here.

Go answer it.

[Reeves inhales sharply] It’s okay.

What are you waiting for?

[Anderson] I was only told three guests.

[footsteps receding]

[Anderson] Authorization.

[Sorello] Tango Charlie Romeo Romeo Five!

Key code?

[Sorello] Washington. Come on.

[security buzzes]

[door unlocks]

Come on.

[eerie music]

[Reeves exhales]

There’s a new walkin coming.

You were at City Hall?

Wait, where were you?

Were you at the motorcade?

Yeah.

I’m okay. Go.

Hands in the air.

Whoa, whoa.

Nope, nope, Don’t move. Don’t move.

I’m Anderson.

I’m the housekeeper here.

I just almost got my ass blown apart.

Lower your gun.

[tense music]

I went through hell out there.

We all did.

Listen, I know we’re all as scared as you are.

I am not scared.

I’m dialed in.

Anyone should be scared, it’s whoever just attacked us, and until I know exactly who they are… and who you are…

I’m keeping my gun up.

Put the gun down.

Put the gun down!

How did you get in here?

[Halton] Used my own clearance.

[Sorello] Who the hell are you?

Halton Langley.

Sorello, Homeland Security.

Show me your credentials.

Lower your gun and I will.

And since when is a revolver standard at Homeland Security?

Nothing about today has been standard.

Well, I’d like to finish the day without getting shot.

You?

[suspenseful music intensifies]

[music fades]

See how easy things are when you just talk to people?

[door locks]

Anderson. Housekeeping.

Who are our guests?

Mia Owens, DoD.

My partner, Reeves, is injured.

He’s upstairs.

Choi.

I heard you were part of the Mercury 2 detail.

What is that?

Vice president.

Just you running this house, Anderson?

[Anderson] Yes, sir.

Tough job by yourself.

I spent time in this space back in the day.

Do we have comms?

[Anderson] Secured.

Yeah.

What about those windows?

They’re one-way glass.

Like the kid said, one-way glass.

Bulletproof.

What are you looking at? Huh?

Hey. He’s not our problem.

[Sorello] You running point.

I’m not even here, man.

All right.

I’m calling rank.

I need to get to a secured phone line. Now.

Follow me.

Halton.

I need to go check on Reeves.

Let me look at him.

[beep]

Alone.

Sure.

Close the door.

[door closes]

[Woman] Identification?

Choi.

Pass code 45759.

For Marshall, pass code 20112.

[Woman] Screen clearance. Stand by. Agent Choi, am I glad to see you.

Any new intel?

Well, we have two simultaneous attacks. Don’t know the body count yet. The early estimates could be in the hundreds. We have a team tracking a possible remote detonation from the City Hall attack.

Mercury 2?

Airborne until we know more.

Are there any other agents in the house?

Yes.

There’s one from our unit.

Two from Langley.

One from DoD and some trigger-happy son of a bitch from Homeland.

Don’t tell any of them what you have.

We’ll get a team to you soon.

Stay strong, son.

Yes, sir.

[tense music]

[music fades]

[Choi sighs]

[water splashing]

He seems fine.

Lucky it was CS, not sarin.

How are you?

A little better.

I should have been more diligent.

Hey.

No one saw this coming.

Don’t beat yourself up.

Just follow protocol and we’ll get out of this safely.

[comms blaring]

[Marshall] Authorization for Safe House 5102.

Tango Charlie Romeo Romeo Five.

You’re on speaker.

We currently have five guests in the house.

One agent’s in recovery.

Housekeeper, can you repeat?

Did you say five guests?

[Anderson] Yes, sir.

Agent Choi here.

Is there any intel on when the shelter in place order will be lifted?

[Marshall] All agents are to follow protocol.

Everyone?

All agents are to follow protocol.

Command, this is Halton.

I’m running point.

Is there any indication when the order will be lifted?

[Marshall] No, none. LAPD and the National Guard are mobilized evacuating a two-mile radius of the affected area as we speak.

So you’re saying we’re stuck here.

[Marshall] That’s affirmative.

That’s fucking great.

Halton, can you pick up the handset?

We have new intel we need to discuss.

I’m here.

Can you say that again?

Command, that is highly [electronics flickering, shutting down] Command?

Hello?

System override.

It’s a remote lockdown.

They’re locking us in here.

[Sorello] Fuck. Go.

[Anderson] Get to the door! It’s the door.

[Sorello] Go. Come on. Pull. Pull.

[both straining]

They cut the power.

The door’s locked.

There’s no way in or out.

[Owens] Ugh!

[Sorello] Shit.

What did he say?

What did he say?

How do we lose power if some of these lights are still up?

Battery backups.

Doesn’t take much to power a bulb.

Any other exits?

It’s a safe house.

How many exits you think it’s gonna have?

[disconnected beeping]

[Owens] There’s no signal.

They jammed it.

Fucking protocol.

It’s like they think we’re the enemy.

They think we’re the enemy.

What the fuck does that mean?

Command traced the detonator signal from today’s attacks to here.

They think one of us is the bomber.

Wait, wait.

Why would the bomber keep the detonator on them?

To set off the next bomb.

[Halton] We’re all detained until one of us surrenders.

You believe that?

They traced the signal here.

Well, I was shot at.

Yeah, so were we.

I’ve been here the whole time.

You can-you can check the cameras.

That’s pretty convenient for you, ain’t it?

The power’s out, so we can’t check them, can we?

I’m just putting my cards on the table, too.

And maybe that’s something we should all do.

What the fuck were you on the line about?

No, that’s above your pay grade.

You’re hiding something.

That’s my business, not yours.

Look, they said the detonator is still here.

I mean, we can search the place, right?

Detonator could be the size of a dime.

Yeah, and where does that leave us?

[Choi] I don’t know.

You want to start shooting folks?

Start with him.

Oh.

No, you do not want to be pushing my buttons right now.

You are hiding something, and we deserve to know what it is before we get killed.

Trust me, if I was the enemy, you would all be dead by now.

I miss anything?

[gun cocks]

[Halton] Choi.

Like I said.

I don’t want to catch anybody in a room alone.

Got it?

[tense music]

No terror group has claimed responsibility for these well-coordinated, precisely calculated attacks. First responders on the scene have confirmed that a chemical agent was used at the City Hall attack. Across the street, I am seeing officers getting suited up in hazmat suits, [TV host] and multiple bomb squads have been dispatched to continue looking for more devices. Police are sifting through the aftermath and searching for any additional explosives.

[helicopters rotors whirring]

[Owens] Your pupils look better.

Ahh. Yeah.

Everything’s still blurry, though.

Look, this is nuts.

We’re under a shelter in place order from a WMD thread.

We’ve got no power.

Yeah, we’re screwed here.

What do you remember?

I remember waking up.

And both of us being nervous about this assignment. The quiet ride to Mercury 2. And then I remember you taking a phone call and splitting away from the group. And then… I turned around and gas was just spraying everywhere.

[rapid gunfire]

Then everything else is just a blur. But I remember your voice. [Owens] Come on, Reeves. Let’s go. I got you.

[Reeves grunting]

And then we were here.

I could have lost you.

Hey, I’m alive.

I’m here, and you’re here.

You still a fighter?

Always.

You still got it?

Hey. Halton wanted me to tell–

Yeah.

Yeah. I kept it safe.

Okay. That was a targeted attack, which means they must have known why we were there.

It was classified.

[Reeves] We gotta tell the others.

No.

Hey. Hey.

I know it’s dangerous.

Are you sure?

[sighs] No. Not at all.

But if we are being hunted, then we’re gonna need allies in the room.

God forbid this gets any worse.

We both nearly died today.

Me too.

I know we’re all under suspicion.

This is my first time back in the field after three years.

I work in development, at the Department of Defense Special Projects.

The what?

It’s the DoD creative arm.

I’m a developer, and Reeves is my associate in the Secret Service.

So you’re Q and he’s Bond.

We’ve been working together for the past nine months on a new assignment.

We were here in Los Angeles to deliver it to Mercury 2.

[Choi] That’s why you were outside City Hall?

We were to deliver special project code name C49.

The case got damaged.

What is that?

A monocular?

This one can only be activated by my ID.

One of my eyes.

We were to deliver it today to the Mercury 2.

To lock it to him.

It’s got a built-in failsafe in case the subject dies too.

If I were dead, this device would recognize that my pupils were middilated.

Cadaveric position.

So it’s a device that protects itself, but not the user.

What the hell does it do?

We’re not authorized–

Bullshit. What the hell–

We’re not authorized to reveal that.

But if this is what they’re after, we’re gonna need your help to keep it safe.

This device stays between me and Reeves and no one else.

[Reeves coughs]

[Owens] That went well.

We had to withhold some things.

That’s the business.

We told them enough to get them off our backs.

[coughs] Yeah.

I’m okay.

Go keep an eye on them, especially that prick from Homeland.

[sniggers]

[water pouring]

It’s time for you to level with me.

Listen, I appreciate our past.

I do.

Appreciate it?

You need to remember it.

I ran the Moscow corridor when you were still pretty new.

I extracted a Soviet asset to this same safe house.

Everyone’s day is going to get a lot more complicated if we don’t work together.

Do you have a question, Halton?

Choi, if I were you, I would not make me the enemy.

You’re going to get us all killed.

I’m trying to save you all.

God damn it, Choi.

What’s the problem?

He finally tell you he’s working with the North Koreans?

Yeah.

I’m Chinese American, you fucking idiot.

Doesn’t make me feel any better.

Hey, come on, Sorello.

No, it’s fine.

You want to do this?

We could do this.

Yeah, I’d love to.

Yeah?

You paranoid fuck.

In this house, you are the bottom of the food chain.

Nobody here knows who the fuck you are, why you’re here,

I have every right to know You could be some-what’s going on here.

In fact, it’s my job to know.

And if you think for one second that I’m gonna wait until someone shoots me in the back of the fucking head over whatever it is that you’re keeping secret, you got another think coming.

I can guarantee you, no one will shoot you in the back of the head.

This isn’t the time to be holding back intel.

It’s not the time to be sharing intel either.

I gave you your one warning earlier.

[Sorello] And this is your warning.

[Choi] Yeah? Guys.

Come clean now.

There’s someone at the window!

[loud explosion]

[tense music]

[rapid gunfire]

[Gunman Six] Cover. [Gunman Seven] Go!

[glass shatters]

[Choi] Shit.

[Reeves] Owens, move!

[overlapping grunting]

[intense music]

[Choi] No, no.

Bridge, bridge.

[glass shatters]

[knife clanking]

[Gunman choking]

[bone cracks]

[Gunman grunts]

[beeping]

[bomb explodes]

[high-pitched ringing]

[muffled grunting]

Mag.

[Reeves] Get down.

[Reeves] [Indistinct], watch out.

Reeves. Reeves.

Come on.

No, no, look at me.

Look at me, please.

No, no, no, no.

No, no.

Come on.

Oh, my…come on.

Don’t leave me.

Please.

Clear.

[rapid gunfire]

[gunman screaming]

[crash]

Now we’re clear.

[loud explosion]

Oh.

What the hell was that?

[pensive music]

Can we get a sheet for him or something?

[Choi] The ropes are gone. That’s how they got away.

Hey. In here.

Oh, come on.

How did this happen?

[Halton] I shot the guy in the head. He must have blown up.

[Sorello] The guy that Choi chucked out the window, he exploded too.

[Anderson] And the other one escaped.

[pensive music]

[Garcia] RPG! Watch out. Incoming.

[muffled gunfire, indistinct shouting]

[Garcia] Exit fire!

[Owens] Context right.

[Garcia] Move it. Move it. Cover me.

[Owens] Garcia!

[indistinct shout]

[Owens] Ugh, I’m hit!

[Owens crying]

You know what I’m trying to figure out? If one of us is the bomber, then why were we just attacked?

How is that thing still on?

It’s got a backup battery.

Lot of medicine inside.

Keeps it fresh.

Medicine?

You got quick clot in here?

[Anderson] Yeah. The lefthand side.

I thought these windows were bulletproof.

Bulletproof, not explosive proof.

Never seen the street so empty.

Yeah, that’s what happens when you evacuate a city.

[Announcer] Downtown Los Angeles has been evacuated.

[helicopter whirring]

[Announcer] [indistinct] Downtown jurisdiction.

[News Anchor] By order of the governor, martial law has been declared for Los Angeles and its surrounding cities. With risk of any ongoing threats and use of chemical weapons, it has become a quarantine zone. To ensure safety, all residents in the immediate and surrounding areas have been successfully evacuated while the investigation continues.

[somber music]

Are you sure you want to do that?

He hasn’t blown up yet.

I reckon we’ll be fine.

BOOM!

They don’t even bother hiding their faces.

When you’re wearing a dead trigger, it doesn’t matter who sees you.

Anyone recognize him?

He’s dead.

Why did he not explode?

[Halton] The trigger mechanism is toast.

This is some guerrilla warfare shit.

The moment his heart stops, boom.

Anything on him?

He’s clean.

Minus, of course, the block of C4 up his ass.

You see anything on that tablet?

I don’t remember.

It all happened so fast, and…

You work in development, and the best you’ve got is, “I don’t know, it all happened so” There were explosions, so forgive me if I’m a little fuzzy on the details.

Those details got your partner killed.

Fuck you, Choi!

I’m not the one holding back intel.

They seem more interested in you.

Hey, hey.

Hey, hey, hey.

Don’t!

You don’t want to do that.

Just let her go, man.

Stay out of this.

Okay.

I’m just saying, that the only way we’re gonna get through this is if we work together.

One more fucking move, I dare you.

I fucking–

Choi, let him up!

dare you.

[gunshot] That was my last warning to everyone here.

[Anderson winces]

Don’t be such a pussy.

I’m not.

Well, let me finish.

I’m sorry… about your partner.

[Owens] I wish I could have done more.

Is that the first time you lost someone?

I served a tour in Iraq before I joined the DoD.

Put my degree to use.

You serve too?

The Marines.

How the hell did you get away with that?

Don’t ask.

Rangers.

No shit.

For a while, anyway.

I was in Iraq, and my platoon was hit with an IED.

Same old crap.

You’ve heard it before.

Tell me.

Well, our convoy was blown to shit, and my second gunner, Garcia, I see him out the window of the Humvee, and he’s what, 100 yards away, and he’s down.

So I left the convoy, and I almost get to Garcia, and then suddenly I feel this burning in the side of my–

You all right?

I blacked out.

I thought I was dead.

A passing convoy came by and saved us.

God, I couldn’t save him.

You can’t save everyone.

I lost my sister, too.

[somber music]

When I came back, I had the usual. Nightmares… shortness of breath… the thoughts…

Then I started working in development tech and I found a way to busy my mind.

Busy my…

You found a new passion.

I found something where I could save lives, even my own.

[loud alarm blaring]

[Owens] What the hell is that?

[Anderson] Go.

Holding room! Go!

[all grunting]

[Sorello] Oh, shit.

Okay, they must’ve hacked into the system.

[Halton] Why? What does that accomplish?

Corner us to force us to move.

I mean, look at where we are.

We’re fish in a…

Barrel.

[explosion]

[Sorello] What is that?

[tense music]

[Halton] Get back.

[clatter of falling debris]

[Owens] Storage room.

It’s screener smoke.

Gotta move.

Cover your mouth.

[Choi] Owens, come on.

[Owens] Cover the door .

[Choi] Let’s go.

I’ll take the right flank.

Anderson, wait.

Got you.

[Owens straining]

[gunshots]

[Sorello groans]

Oh, Jesus!

[Anderson] Halton.

[automatic gunfire]

[Sorello groaning]

[bomb beeping]

[explosion]

[Anderson grunts]

[grunting and groaning]

[metal clanking]

He’s alive.

Any explosives?

[Anderson] All clear.

Cuff him.

[Halton] Let’s check the place. They might still be here.

You okay?

Yeah.

Here.

[Sorello gasps]

[ominous music]

Where the fuck did they go?

[Halton] In here.

[Choi] Shit.

Give you a boost?

I’ll go.

Hold this.

Be careful.

[Owens panting]

Jesus, it’s a trap.

It’s enough Semtex to bring down the whole building.

We’re not getting out of here anytime soon.

Anderson, how the fuck could you not hear something happening right above your head?

Huh?

That’s your job, to keep this place secure.

Exactly what is your job, Sorello?

You still haven’t told us why you’re even here.

Homeland Security.

It’s my job to make sure that there’s no terror threats on public transportation.

Oh well, that sure worked out for everyone.

The only one that knows anything is this asshole.

Let’s wake him up and get some answers.

I want an agent posted at the window.

Sorello, you’re up.

Why me?

Because you’re the only one who will shoot first and ask questions later.

[rhythmic, unsettling music]

Accelerant.

Don’t worry. I’m only gonna give him a couple of ccs.

More than enough to make him talk.

What the fuck, Sorello?

[Sorello] What?

Anderson, you get on the windows.

Sorello, stay in here until he wakes up.

What am I, a babysitter now?

It’s gonna be about five to 10 minutes.

Good.

I want to speak to him first.

Hey, Halton, this backup battery pack here.

I can remove it, right?

I guess so.

I think I can hook it up to the electrical system in the supply room.

Great idea, Owens.

I’ll see what I can do.

You know what?

My blood sugar’s sinking.

Let me get some of this pizza right here.

It’s a shame that bullet just nicked him.

Can’t believe you right now.

What? You want to order Door-Dash or somethin’?

Tell him to look for the guy on the sidewalk without a torso.

[tense music]

[Halton] You’ve done this before.

Yeah, done a bit of electrical engineering in my day.

[Sorello] Hey guys, he’s awake.

[muttering]

Who are you?

Who are you?

What’s the matter?

You don’t understand English?

Hm?

Or maybe you just can’t hear me?

[speaks in Russian]

[strains]

Struggle all you want.

You’re not going anywhere.

So you do understand me.

Can you speak?

Can you speak?!

Maybe you’ll talk a little easier with fewer teeth.

Sorello.

[groaning]

Who do you work for?

That’s for all the people you killed today.

This one’s personal.

[The operative screams in pain]

[bone snaps]

[grunting]

[punch thrown]

[Sorello] You want me to break the other one? You got nine more, you fucking Russian fuck… Who are you? Don’t test me. I fucking dare you.

This is protocol?

Huh?

Are you just gonna let this happen?

[Choi] Oh, it’s happening.

[Sorello] Fucking cunt. I got a little something special for you.

Owens, say something.

Go back to your post.

[Sorello] Who the fuck do you work for?

[panting]

Talk.

[screaming]

[Sorello] Whoo! Whoo! Come on!

We gotta be better than this.

When you’re back in the field, you’ll understand.

I don’t need to be in the field to understand what’s right and wrong.

[taser clicking]

[screaming]

Talk!

Can you feel that you fucking toast.

What are you hiding?

Halton, let me in.

[Choi] No. He’s gonna kill him before we get any actual intel.

[The operative grunting]

[Sorello] Fucking die, you motherfucker.

[taser clicking]

[screaming]

Fucking die!

Sorello. Take a break.

You want some more?

She said, take a break, Sorello.

He’s real soft for you.

[gulps, spits]

Who are you?

Nobody.

Wrong answer.

[screaming]

She’s the good cop.

Okay. Okay.

My mission is my name.

My name is mission.

What is your mission?

Any more planned attacks?

You, Daniel Reeves, Agent Choi, Anderson, you are here for reason.

We couldn’t finish what we started at City Hall.

We separate you here to contain you.

What’s the American phrase?

Ah, yeah.

You’re fish in barrel.

[laughing]

Even you, Mia Angelica Owens.

Thirty-two.

Weapon specialist, having fling with her partner, Daniel Reeves.

Spent nine months on this case only to watch your lover die.

[screaming]

Kill him.

You won’t tell me? Fine.

How about I give you the full fucking dose?

What are you planning?!

[laughs] Planning.

[laughs]

Tell me!

Poor girl, it’s already in motion.

You’ll be with your lover real soon.

Motherfucker!

This isn’t about you.

This isn’t about you!

Owens!

You don’t need to do this.

You don’t need to do this.

You can’t save anyone.

It’s cyanide. It’s cyanide!

It’s cyanide. It’s cyanide!

You’re already dead.

What are you doing? Huh?

He was gonna talk.

[stammers] I was–

[Halton] He was talking.

[Anderson] Just trying to help.

Trying to help?

[bomb beeping]

[Owens] Sorello, check him. Holy shit. It’s armed.

Anderson, you searched him.

I must have been moving too fast.

Everybody out! Now!

[explosion]

[all groan]

[electricity crackles]

[glass shatters]

[all groaning]

Okay. Okay.

I know what’s going on here.

I figured it out.

I know who is working with them.

[gun clicks]

Pu-put that away.

Why would you run in there just before she got him?

She was gonna kill him.

No, he was about to sing.

You don’t-you don’t know that.

You don’t know what she was gonna do.

You. You’re the one that searched his body.

All the other bodies blew up.

You weren’t supposed to be in that room.

And you, the one that’s all calm, clearheaded, and quiet, didn’t hear what was going on right above your fucking head.

[gun clicks]

Answer the question.

Are you kidding me?

We haven’t heard a peep from them since they’ve been up there.

None of us have.

The Russian, he had you dead to rights in that snow cloud, and I saved you.

You would be dead if it wasn’t for me.

That fucker stabbed me in the shoulder, and you still don’t trust me?

[gun clicks]

[Halton] Sorello, wait.

[Sorello] I can’t believe it took me this long to figure all of this out. You’re a fucking traitor.

[gun clicks]

Look.

My name is Nathan Anderson.

I gave the warning that they were outside the window.

I saved all of your lives.

But every-every-one thinks that-that I’m the throwaway?

I’m the mistake?

That’s what happens, right?

When you’re a vet, you just make some mistakes.

You’re so eager to shoot someone today?

Shoot me, motherfucker.

Shoot me!

We’re going to start establishing some goddamn order here.

First, Sorello, you’re going to keep your gun out of our faces.

Second, Owens, take Anderson’s gun.

Take him upstairs and cuff him.

[Sorello sighs]

You don’t have to do this, you know.

We both lost people in the war.

I just couldn’t handle it as well as you.

Don’t make this about me.

It’s not.

It’s about them.

They die, but… they stay with us.

Their faces, their voices… their last words.

They all stay with us.

It’s up to us to do better… for them.

Sorello was right.

I nearly broke him.

Choi. These terrorists, or whoever they are, know more about us than we do.

And all we know about them is they’re smuggling fucking bombs on their backs.

It’s time you told everyone what we’re really dealing with.

People died today because–

How many more people have to die before the end of this day?

I’m not trying to find out.

You want to save lives?

Start with us.

Tell them about the nukes.

I fucking knew it.

Look, Reeves was right earlier.

God forbid something happens to one of us.

They’re going to need to know what the hell is going on.

Shit.

There are two active footballs on this planet that have direct operational access to America’s nuclear arsenal.

One of them is with POTUS, the other with the vice president.

Earlier today, when our motorcade was attacked, the Secret Service agent responsible for carrying this… was killed, and I took this from him to keep it safe.

I-is that-is that what I think it is?

It functions as a mobile hub in our strategic defense system.

[device beeps]

How operational are we talking?

Launch, detonation, recall.

All of it.

I mean, technically, we can win World War Three from our couch.

What are all those little red dots?

[Choi] Locations of every missile silo in America.

Okay, but we have safeguards, right?

Gold codes.

Do you wanna know what the hell this thing does?

[scanner beeps]

It generates gold codes.

Are you serious?

I’m not even trained to carry this thing.

You were right to hide it today.

Why should we trust either of you?

They must have known Reeves and I were supposed to deliver this to the VP today.

And when they failed, they used our own backup protocol against us to trap us here.

None of this was a coincidence.

They’ve been playing us all along.

The VP wasn’t the target.

We were.

[Sorello sighs]

[unsettling music builds up]

[Owens] Come on.

No signal?

No, nothing.

Did you try the door?

Yeah, I tried.

Okay. Looks like we’re back in business here.

See if you can access the footage from the security cameras.

When?

Before we arrived.

The last 24 hours.

I’m on it.

[Halton] Power’s going up in the surveillance room.

Wow. At least one thing’s going right.

There’s still no internet signal, but we got a monitor.

[door pings]

[Choi] Ssssh.

[device beeping]

[Choi] What’s that beeping?

Is that coming from the door?

Huh?

No.

They’re outside!

[explosion]

[Choi grunts]

Keep searching, no matter what.

Just make sure that decoder doesn’t fall into their hands.

[Owens] I’m on it.

[gunshots]

[Sorello grunts]

[Sorello] Ah, fuck!

Go, go!

[Halton] Move it.

Clear.

Come on, come on, come on.

Sorello.

[Sorello grunting]

I can help you.

Go get the keys.

Where were the keys?

Keys on the shelf right there.

Get these cuffs off me, man.

Get up. Come on.

[overlapping grunting]

[Owens] Who the hell are you?

Come on. Hurry up!

I could help you, Sorello.

Pass me the key.

Hurry up. Be quick!

Throw me the key.

Trust me.

[overlapping grunting]

[Choi grunts]

Come on, come on, come on!

Help me. Ow, ow!

Please. Help me.

Gonna make a tourniquet, all right?

It’s gonna hurt.

Okay, okay.

You ready?

One, two…

[Sorello screaming]

[bomb beeping]

Put pressure on it.

Put the gun down.

Trust me.

Thank you.

[Anderson] I told you to shoot me.

Oh, my god.

That’s not Anderson!

[Halton] Fuck you.

That’s not Anderson!

[Owens gasping]

It’s about time, brother.

[Choi groaning]

[Owens gasping]

You would have made life a hell of a lot easier if you just went ahead and died in the street today.

Sorry to disappoint.

[metal scraping]

[grunt]

[chuckles]

Attaboy. That’s it.

Breathe.

Oops.

Get the decoder.

You look like a man who just watched a friend die.

Trust me, I know the feeling.

Anderson. Why?

His name isn’t Anderson.

Now, that is true.

‘Cause I killed Anderson this morning.

Took his badge, all that.

Do you know how many people you killed today?

You think this country gives a damn?

How many kids died fighting in Afghanistan, in Iraq, on drugs owned by immigrants?

This country is falling apart at the seams, and only those who truly care about America can save America.

What the hell is this?

It’s a crusade, Owens.

It’s a motherfucking crusade.

Now for too long, real Americans have been pushed to the side and made to suffer while others prospered.

You know, 27 veterans commit suicide each day.

That’s nearly 10,000 a year.

This isn’t a crusade.

This is fucking nationalist bullshit.

[Owens grunting]

But the Russians?

No. The Russian accent my brother pulled off… now, that was child’s play.

Diversion.

And while you and your Pentagon are so worried about the Muhammads and the Karlsruhe, y’all forget to worry about the Smiths and the Johnsons.

You got it wrong, son.

We both fought for the same country.

I know it wasn’t perfect when you came home, but this isn’t the way to deal with it.

You know, the hardest part of all this was keeping a smile off my face when Owens and Choi brought both devices right here.

Now, we may have failed this morning, but by using the agency’s threat notification against you?

[chuckles]

Now, that worked like a charm.

Hm?

I’m sorry, Owens.

Truly am.

What it’s worth, you died sparking a revolution.

I’ll carry both your names with me.

[gunshot]

[Halton grunts]

[Owens shudders]

[Owens] No! Come here.

Don’t fucking touch me!

[Owens grunting]

[indistinct]

[device beeps]

Get your ass up.

Open your fucking eyes.

Fuck you.

Open your eyes.

No, fuck you!

Open your goddamn eyes!

You’re gonna have to kill me.

[Owens screams]

[Anderson] Come on.

No!

[Anderson] Show me that eye.

[Owens] No. 010110.

[Computer] Voice activation initiated. Access granted.

[intense music]

[alarm blaring]

[Anderson] Destination-mark 38 degrees north, 77 degrees west.

All we need is one missile to take out DC.

You’re gonna kill thousands.

No, save millions.

We gotta operate a station in every state.

Once we take back America, we’ll make it stronger, better than ever before.

Who got into your head?

I know you’re all twisted up.

I can-I can help you get out of all this.

We can-we can fix this.

You don’t get it!

I don’t want to get out of this.

For the people I lost.

I’m doing this…

I’m doing this for my sister.

You remind me of her.

And my real name’s Elijah King.

You know, I-I couldn’t save her, but I could save them.

So the next kid that signs up has it better than I did.

You think your sister is proud of you?

You’re not a hero.

You’re a fucking maniac.

She’s all yours.

Commence launch.

[Computer] Confirmed. 60 seconds.

[Owens screaming]

Let’s go, sweetheart.

[Owens] No.

[Owens groaning]

Be grateful.

At least you get to die next to your little boyfriend.

Go to hell!

[bomb beeping]

[explosion]

[gun fired]

[Elijah grunting]

Elijah, turn it off.

Do you wanna save lives?

Just like me?

[gunshot]

[Owens panting]

[Elijah groans, thuds]

[soft, dramatic music]

[somber music]

[Marshall] Safe House 5102, do you read? Safe House 5102, do you read? Copperhead, do you read?

[tense music]

Safe House 5102, do you read?

Copperhead, do you read?

Elijah, do you read?

Damn it, Elijah, pick up the phone.

Elijah, pick up the goddamn phone!

He’s gone.

[Staff] Secure sensitive material. Power down.

[devices shutting down]

[Female Staff] Wiping all hard drives.

He died how he lived, fighting.

And that’s how we will remember him.

We will regroup at base at 08:00, Sunday.

We’re just getting started.

Now let’s move to Plan B.

You all take the back stairs.

[Staff] Plan B operation.

Move, now!

[Caller] General.

I’m ready for extract.

[Caller] Copy. ETA, five minutes.

See you there.

[foreboding music]
