[gentle music plays]

[woman] Love is the most powerful force in the universe.

However, it doesn’t always come with fairy tales and flowers.

Sometimes, it shows up in the most unexpected and unconventional ways.

There’s an old hymn that says, “God moves in mysterious ways, His wonders to perform.”

Well, finding love, true love, is one of God’s greatest wonders.

Every love story has a beginning.

But the greatest ones, they just don’t start with “happily ever after.”

They start with truth, with trust, and sometimes tragedy.

Let me tell you a love story straight from the Book of Ruth.

This is Ruth Moably.

[host speaking indistinctly]

[crowd cheering]

Ruth’s mother abandoned her on the steps of a church when she was five years old.

Yet she persevered and made it further than anyone thought she could.

[host speaking indistinctly]

Ruth always loved to sing, but couldn’t find the song in her spirit.

She was grappling with who she really was and who everyone else wanted her to be.

Before I go any further, I want to take the time to shout out my man Syrus Jordan in the building, from Ice Grill Records.

[people cheer]

And also, I gotta shout out, my man’s in the building.

What up, Jermaine Dupri? JD, what up?

[people cheering]

Lord, please, grant us with the ability to be able to connect with the audience.

And let the glory be yours, and only yours.

I messed up.

I have to go fix it.

What do you… Your fault? What do you…

I’m sorry.

[Boaz] Ruth.

Ruth!

[sweeping, dramatic music plays]

God! What now?

[shudders]

[man] Mr. Azra.

I’m Detective Lansing.

The Fire Chief called me in once they determined this was arson.

Arson?

Yes.

Your insurance company will require an investigation, but can you think of anyone who would want to hurt you?

[morose music plays] [grunts in confusion] Uh…

Any money owed or any runins?

No.

Anyone who felt threatening?

[dramatic sting]

Get officers to 17 Maple Street now.

17 Maple Street right now.

Tomatoes straight from my garden.

Oh, very good.

Ruth helped me plant them.

There she is!

Country girl now.

Bet you didn’t see that coming after her performance at Club Eternity.

Ruth, that’s enough. I’ll buy you some more clothes.

Let’s go.

She’s not going with you.

No, Naomi, I have to.

[ominous music plays]

Sy was behind the carjacking.

And he set Bo’s winery on fire last night.

There’s a lot of ways to convince people to do stuff they don’t wanna do.

I’m just here to collect on a contract.

Ruth, you were warned. Let’s go.

Let’s go.

Come on, we got a long drive. Let’s go.

No!

[Wolf] Sit down!

[Ruth] No, no, no.

[Wolf] Hey!

Get off!

[groans in pain]

Get up, hard head.

Let’s go. Yeah.

[Ruth] Get off me.

What the hell he want?

Bo, no. Don’t.

Take her to the car.

Just let me go.

[Syrus] Man, back up.

You want to die or something?

[Wolf] Boss, unlock the door.

[both grunting]

[Ruth] No!

[Boaz grunting]

[grunts]

No, Bo!

[men straining] [Ruth] No!

Leave him alone!

No!

[gunshot]

[Syrus gasps]

You took my husband and my son.

You’re not taking my daughter.

[haunting piano music plays]

[siren wailing in distance]

Next time, I won’t miss.

[music fades] [indistinct police radio chatter] I meant what I said when I was in the hospital.

You saved my life.

What that man did, that’s not your fault, Ruth.

And he will pay for it, in this life or the next, but I wish you had just trusted me enough to tell me.

To believe that I love you.

[gentle music plays]

I’ve been cooking for you.

[chuckles softly]

Oh, Bo.

Oh…

[chuckles, groans] Ooh.

Oh… [chuckles sympathetically] I am so sorry about the vineyard.

It could have been worse.

I have to go give a statement, hmm?

I lied to you.

You did. By omission.

But I should have listened to what you weren’t saying.

My God. The fear you were living with.

[exhales]

[hopeful piano music plays]

Bo, you showed me that I have love to give.

Thank you.

Sounds like goodbye.

It is.

How could you live with me? I can hardly live with myself.

Ruth, I can make more wine.

I can never find another you.

So much for God blessing the fruit.

[crows cawing]

Are you kidding?

[music ends]

Whole life was up in here.

No one’s even going to be able to taste it.

[Geno] Oh man.

We should try it.

Geno, you have a bottle opener?

Ruth…

Yeah.

It’s undrinkable. Just…

Give it a shot. Why not?

Give me the bottle.

[gentle music plays]

[cork pops] [grunts] I’ll take first dibs.

All right, go ahead, try it out yourself.

[music becomes hopeful]

[Boaz groans]

I don’t know much about wine, but you should try this.

I should try this?

Yes.

Okay.

Bo.

You need to try this.

No, I don’t.

Bo. Trust me.

Brother…

[Geno] Mmhmm.

[Geno chuckling]

No, that’s impossible. Fire should’ve turned this all to vinegar.

No, this is impossible.

I heard about this, man. Wine surviving a fire. I mean…

We’ll have to test every bottle up in here. But, uh…

I think…

The 20…

The 2017 reserve is better than before.

Huh? Huh?!

[Geno] Yeah, baby!

Yes, sir!

[laughs] [Geno] Whoo!

[suspenseful music plays]

Well, the judging panel has already decided that this is not getting a recommendation.

It is, however, getting Best in Show.

[sighs]

[Ronan and Boaz chuckle]

Congratulations.

[Boaz chuckles]

Ronan, don’t be playing with me.

I’m not playing.

Your father would be proud.

Would he?

Yeah.

[Boaz laughs]

[Boaz] Man, would he!

[laughs]

[Ronan chuckles] Whoo!

Very proud.

[Boaz sighs in relief]

So, a deal is a deal.

What are you going to call it?

R&B.

For Ruth and Boaz.

It was the miracle of you that made this happen.

[Ruth chuckles softly] [sighs] You think you’d have enough time to be a recording artist and my partner?

Only if I get to crush with you.

[gentle piano music playing]

[Naomi] Turns out Ruth was wrong.

She did get to live happily ever after.

The best love stories don’t start with fireworks.

Sometimes they start in the ashes.

God is love.

Love is patient.

Love is kind.

It doesn’t envy.

It doesn’t boast.

And it never, ever gives up.

Faith, hope, and love remain, but the greatest of these is love.

Love always wins.
