Dr. Seuss’s the Sneetches (2025)
Director: Bronagh O’Hanlon
Writers: Dr. Seuss, Dustin Ferrer
Based on: Dr. Seuss children’s story, “The Sneetches.” This story was originally published in 1961 as the main story in the collection The Sneetches and Other Stories. The original book is a satirical tale about prejudice and discrimination, featuring two groups of bird-like creatures: the Star-Belly Sneetches and the Plain-Belly Sneetches. The 2025 Netflix special adapts this core concept, though it updates the “Plain-Belly” Sneetches to “Moon-Belly” Sneetches and focuses on the friendship between two young members of the opposing groups.
Stars: Amari McCoy, Sophie Petersen, Christopher Fitzgerald
Release date: November 3, 2025 (Netflix)
Plot: The story focuses on the Sneetches, bird-like creatures divided into two rival groups: the Star-Bellies and the Moon-Bellies. The communities have long enforced separation due to their different markings, with each side considering itself superior. However, the special follows an unexpected friendship between Stella, a Star-Belly Sneetch, and Pearl, a Moon-Belly Sneetch. Through their bond, they ultimately teach their segregated communities that outward differences are meaningless, proving that “Sneetches are Sneetches,” and uniting the two groups on the beach.

Dr. Seuss’s the Sneetches (2025) | Transcript
Oi!
[crab squeaks] Ooh!
[screams] Oh, ow, ow!
[exciting music plays]
Oh! Huh.
Hello there. Allow me to introduce myself.
I’m David O’Doodle Van Donkel McFuzz, and my job is to tell it like it is, or… like it was.
I come from this island surrounded by beaches, and the folks who live there, well, they’re called the Sneetches.
Now, Star-Belly Sneetches have bellies with stars, while Moon-Belly Sneetches have moons upon thars.
But the Moon and StarBellies did not get along.
Each thought they were better and the other was wrong.
Here, uh, you can see for yourself.
Oh no, not those MoonBellies again.
Aw, you StarBellies think you’re so special.
But everyone knows that moons are better than stars.
Psh! We’re better!
No, we’re better!
[David sighs] They felt far too different to share the same space.
[blow raspberries]
[David] So they went their own ways and made their own place.
The Star-Belly Sneetches, they went to the trees, while Moon-Belly Sneetches, they went to the seas.
Yes, that’s how the island of Sneetches arranged.
But this is a story of how it all changed.
[snoring]
Yahoozo!
Let’s see.
[snores] [Sneetch] No, no, no.
[chatters] Ooh, that’s good.
I know!
[groans]
[Sneetch] Woohoohoo, I love that!
[groans] To the drawing board.
Ah.
[hums] Ah.

[yelps] Oh, oh, oh!
[Sneetch grunts] Oh.
Hm? Ah.

Ooh, I’ve got it!
[yelps, screams]

[Bean] Oh.
I gotta show Mom and Dad.

Oh, I don’t know.
Because it would be awesome!
[Bean chatters]

Why don’t you like anything different?
Oh, sweetie, we do.
We like that you’re different.
We just don’t want you to be too different.
Well, we let you have a pet monkey.
That’s pretty strange, right?
[chatters] Oh!
Star-Belly Sneetches rely on tradition.
We do the same thing day after day… year after year.
That’s part of what makes us great.
[sighs] And boring.
Aw.
Aw, Stella Bella, aren’t you gonna stay?
No. [sighs] I’m gonna go get some fresh air.
